fix(extension): m1 disclosure drift and tiktok product paths - #1602
This is milestone M1 of Docs/Proposals/2026-10-28-extension-data-source.md (option B, chosen by JOY on 2026-11-04), without the onboarding screen. The onboarding screen comes in the next PR.
#1239 and #1241 had already fixed most of the drift. This PR fixes what was still off on dev.
It does not change what the extension sends, the ingest API or the opt-in default, which stays off. Nothing is published to the store.
Changes
TikTok scope. On www.tiktok.com the content script now runs only on product page paths: /view/product/*, /@*/product/* and /shop/*pdp/*. It no longer runs on the feed.
Video pages are excluded with exclude_matches, even when their query mentions /product/.
host_permissions keeps the origin, because Chrome ignores paths there.
The pipeline test matches as Chrome does (path and query, no fragment). It checks both sides and confirms that every covered URL is a product to the extractor.
Known trade-off: a product page reached by in-page navigation from the feed gets the badge only after a reload. The store doc says so. The only fix within MV3 would add the scripting permission, so it is left for later if needed.
Privacy policy, section 5 (vi, en, cs):
It names the toggle exactly as the side panel does.
It says an opt-in signal is stored with the time it was received, and that Rate.vn's servers may re-check that listing on the store.
It lists everything kept in the browser, including the lookup wait time.
On the IP address: the server receives it, Rate.vn's code uses it only in memory for a per-minute limit, and the hosting provider keeps standard access logs for a short time.
"No personal data" becomes "no account, name, email or cookies", since an IP plus browsing activity can be personal data. The extension's opt-in text uses the same wording.
CHROMEWEBSTORE.md:
It names all 10 stores, the TikTok paths and the trade-off.
It states the IP handling and the receipt time.
The bot-check and captcha sentence is now about the extension itself. The opt-in signal may lead to a server re-check.
It gives the English toggle label.
RELEASE.md:
The readiness row follows the new matches, and the updated row is dated.
The English changelog uses the real label, "Help find new products".
Tests
pnpm test in apps/extension passes, and so does tsc.
Review
Two fresh-context Claude reviews were run on 4d5de5a.
Disclosure accuracy. Every claim was checked against the code. The RPC stores no IP, no headers and no uid (auth.uid() is null with the anon client). The IP feeds only the in-memory limiter.
TikTok match patterns. Checked against the Chrome documentation and the Chromium matching code.
Neither review found anything blocking. Fixed in 5fade43:
the IP and "personal data" over-claims;
the bot-check sentence next to the server re-crawl;
the incomplete storage list;
the label drift in RELEASE.md;
the greedy @* pattern, now covered by an exclude;
a test helper that differed from how Chrome matches.
Left for M4 (store submission): a stated retention period for queued opt-in signals, and a check of the Vercel and Sentry log settings behind the "short time" wording.
This PR refines the Chrome extension's content script to run exclusively on TikTok product pages (excluding video feeds) and updates privacy documentation across all locales to explicitly disclose IP address handling and clarify that no personal identifiers (name, email, cookies) are transmitted.

Documentation
Updated supported-store information to include TikTok Shop, Di Động Việt, and Phong Vũ.
Clarified what information the extension sends for lookups and optional product contributions, how submitted offers may be reviewed, and how rate limits and access logs are handled.
Clarified that product-page navigation and bot checks are not bypassed.
Updates
Limited TikTok content-script activity to product pages; feeds, profiles, and search pages are excluded.
Clarified that optional contributions exclude account details, names, email addresses, and cookies.
- On www.tiktok.com the content script runs only on product page paths
(/view/product/, /@shop/product/, /shop/.../pdp/), not on the video
feed; the pipeline test checks both sides.
- The privacy policy names the toggle as the side panel does, says the IP
address is used only in memory for a per-minute limit, and that an
opt-in signal is stored with its receipt time (vi, en, cs).
- CHROMEWEBSTORE.md names all 10 stores, the TikTok paths, the IP handling
and the receipt time; RELEASE.md follows the new matches.
What the extension sends, the ingest API and the opt-in default are
unchanged.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- No "personal data" claims: the texts say no account, name, email or
cookies, since the server receives the IP with each request.
- The IP sentence says the Rate.vn code keeps it only in memory and the
hosting provider keeps standard access logs for a short time.
- An opt-in signal may be re-checked on the store by the Rate.vn
servers; the bot-check sentence is about the extension itself.
- The browser storage list adds the lookup wait time; the store doc gives
the English toggle label; RELEASE.md uses the real label and dates the
updated row.
- TikTok: video pages are excluded even when a query mentions /product/;
the test matches like Chrome (path and query, no fragment) and checks
that every covered URL is a product to the extractor.

Changes: TikTok product-page matching and validation
Layer / File(s)
Summary
TikTok product-page matching and validation apps/extension/manifest.json, apps/extension/src/test-extension-pipeline.ts, apps/extension/RELEASE.md
The manifest limits www.tiktok.com content scripts to product paths and excludes creator video paths. Tests cover matching and exclusions, product ID extraction, and host permissions. The release readiness note records the path scope.
Store and privacy disclosures apps/extension/CHROMEWEBSTORE.md, apps/extension/RELEASE.md, apps/extension/src/_locales/*/messages.json, apps/web/locales/{cs,en,vi}.json
Store and privacy text now describes supported stores, product-page scope, lookup and opt-in data, receipt timestamps, rechecks, session storage, IP-based rate limits, and short-lived hosting logs. Extension messages specify that account details, names, email addresses, and cookies are excluded. The release note changes the opt-in label to “Help find new products.”
TikTok scope handling has narrow query-string edge cases: some product pages miss the badge, while some profile pages load the script unnecessarily. The release wording also needs host-specific clarification. These are bounded issues suitable for owner-aware follow-up.

Product pages with /video/ in the query do not get the content script.
Chrome matches exclude_matches against the path and query. For https://www.tiktok.com/@seller/product/123?ref=/video/456, the include https://www.tiktok.com/@*/product/* matches. The exclude https://www.tiktok.com/@*/video/* at apps/extension/manifest.json:61 also matches, because * spans / and the query. The exclude wins, so the script does not run on this product page and no badge appears.
The current patterns cannot keep this product page while excluding video pages whose query contains /product/, such as /@x/video/y?ref=/product/1. Fixing this requires a decision on how injection is filtered. A check inside the content script runs after injection and does not change which pages receive the script.
Add a regression case for a product URL with /video/ in its query to apps/extension/src/test-extension-pipeline.ts. The current injectedOn model fails that case, so the model must change with the fix.

Correct the TikTok scope sentence in the store changelog.
The manifest injects the content script on every shop.tiktok.com page, because its match has no path restriction. The script runs on those pages and sends nothing on non-product pages. The changelog says the extension runs only on product pages, which is inaccurate for shop.tiktok.com. State the behavior separately for each host.

Limit the TikTok content-script scope to the URL pathname.
The https://www.tiktok.com/@*/product/* match also matches profile URLs whose query contains /product/. For example, https://www.tiktok.com/@seller?ref=/product/123 matches, so the content script runs on a profile page outside the product-page scope. WebExtensions match patterns compare the path together with the query string, so query text can satisfy the path component.
The negative URL list in test-extension-pipeline.ts has no profile URL of this form, so the test does not detect the problem. Add that case only after the scope check uses the pathname. Adding it now fails the injectedOn assertion.
The scope check must ignore the query string. A broad exclude_matches entry such as https://www.tiktok.com/@*?*/product/* is not safe. It also excludes the valid product URL https://www.tiktok.com/@shop/product/1?ref=/product/123. Changing the extractor regex does not change injection, because injectedOn reads only the manifest matches and exclude_matches entries.
