test(webview): F2a - profile-mutation state semantics and the mode-rollback guard - #1919
This unit does not close an upstream issue: it is split unit F2a of the durable per-view state (vps2) series, whose split plan is issued and tracked on (issued before this PR opened). It supersedes the closed umbrella PR 1555, and merges in the chain order F1a 1546 → F1b 1550 → F1c 1552 → F2a → F2b → F2c 1921.
Related: #1992 — Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#1992 ([Tracking] vps2 chain: rules, port sources, chain-level rows) is the upstream tracking issue for this chain and the home of this unit's split plan, unit boundaries, acceptance criteria and review dispositions. It is written as Related: rather than Closes: on purpose: merging one unit must not close the acceptance record that #1921 and the tail units still need. There is no other upstream issue for this unit, and no upstream number is invented here.
Description
Content source of record:kind: commit, base 8554307ec → head bff2a5ca8 (PR 1555), replayed onto the current main tip so the branch carries nothing main already has.
Budget (own delta, not the stacked view): 173 a+d standalone, 12 changed executable lines.
One gate scope: the state semantics of a profile mutation must hold for every live view, not only the view that performed it, and a mode rollback must not be able to persist a profile that no longer exists.
Activating or upserting a profile refreshes the buffered apiConfiguration of every other live ClineProvider pinned to that profile (refreshViewLocalStateForUpdatedProfile) and re-posts each affected view's state, so no view keeps serving — or running on — settings it buffered before the mutation.
Deleting a profile re-pins the other live views whose buffer still names it (rePinViewLocalStateForDeletedProfile), replaces their configuration with the surviving profile's, and persists the replacement through the serialized write queue so their durable viewStates entries survive a reload.
deleteProviderProfile now writes only the profile list back instead of replaying a full settings snapshot, so it cannot clobber unrelated keys (notably viewStates) that concurrent views mutate directly.
A mode-scoped profile rollback is guarded so a profile that no longer exists cannot be re-persisted.
Also in this head (1b9d6d73f), from review:deleteProviderProfile performs two durable writes — the settings-store commit and the profile-list write. If the list write (or a later selection update) fails, the stored list still names a profile whose settings are gone and no later selection or load can recover them. The settings are now captured before the commit and written back through saveConfig when a later step fails, so the durable metadata and the store agree again (the deletion simply did not happen); the original error is rethrown and a failed compensation is logged with the residual risk stated.
Reviewer focus: the compensation is deliberately a settings restore, not a list rollback — the list write is the step that failed, so the list keeps naming the profile and the store is made to agree with it. Restoring the original id matters: a new id would orphan the task history entries that reference the profile.
Test Procedure
# from the repository root, with dependencies installed (pnpm install)
pnpm --dir src exec vitest run --globals core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts
pnpm --dir src exec tsc --noEmit
New/updated tests in core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts:
refreshes another live view's buffered settings when the profile it pins is reactivated — two live providers; the mutating view is a different instance, and the assertion is on the other view's buffer, its constructed getState(), and that its webview was re-posted.
re-pins another live view and persists the replacement in its durable view state when its profile is deleted — asserts the other view's in-memory pin, its replaced configuration, and the durable viewStates entry.
restores the deleted profile's settings when the profile-list write fails after the store commit — the store commit succeeds, the list write rejects, and the test asserts saveConfig is called with the original id and secret while the original error propagates.
Each is verified as a pin, not a mirror of the implementation: the two cross-view tests fail when the helper bodies are made to return early, and the compensation test fails when the production change is stashed.
Environment: Windows 11 / Node 22, vitest lanes run from src/. Local result at this head: ClineProvider.spec.ts283 passed (280 baseline + 3 new); tsc --noEmit unchanged from this branch's local baseline; eslint clean on both touched files with unchanged suppression counts.

Suppression counts moved once and only downward: core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.sticky-mode.spec.ts, @typescript-eslint/no-explicit-any26 → 25, because the removed cases took one suppressed any with them. No suppression was added and no count increased; the rest of src/eslint-suppressions.json is byte-identical to the fold base.
Fold pin. This head is the unit rebased onto vps2/f1b-getstate-merge @ 702a15d93. #1550 has since advanced (6a21695f5, db93970af, 28cae0635, 0c6f79b63, 8ef71e68e, currently e0cb48c51); this fold stays pinned to 702a15d93 and will be re-based onto the landing #1550 head rather than mix two generations of view-state machinery in one commit. Every red→green control named below is pinned to this tree.
Owed refresh (deferred deliberately, not missed). The chain fixes that merge earlier than this unit will be re-carried on that refresh: #15578320d7803 + eb553a40d, #1562ec2fb3724 + f555d04a0, #222684a0d7644 + db5bffa49. #2226's postMessageToWebview becoming Promise<boolean> would force re-typing 27 call sites and re-verifying this unit's 1199 tests a second time, and the "test doubles silently disagree" risk it introduces only bites if #1919 merges before #2226, which the declared chain order forbids. The host-minted capability the Security Boundaries row asks for is #2226's claim token (claimToken in packages/types/src/global-settings.ts, viewStateClaim in packages/types/src/vscode-extension-host.ts, pendingViewStateClaims / postViewStateClaimToWebview in src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts), so the adoption/binding step is scheduled on this unit after #2226 lands instead of being re-invented here.
Hook note..husky/pre-push exists on the branch, but this worktree's installed hook set (.husky/_, which is gitignored and produced by pnpm install rather than by the branch) had a pre-commit wrapper and no pre-push wrapper, so git push did not execute pnpm run check-types; nothing was skipped with --no-verify. The hook's own command was run directly for this head and its result is quoted above, and the missing wrapper has now been installed in the worktree for subsequent pushes.
Pre-Submission Checklist
Issue Linked: No upstream issue is closed by this unit (see above).
Scope: One gate scope — cross-view state semantics for profile mutations, plus the mode-rollback guard.
Self-Review: Reviewed against the shipped behavior of the superseded umbrella PR 1555.
Testing: Three new focused unit tests, each verified as a pin.
Visual Snapshots: Not applicable — no rendered-state change.
Documentation Impact: None required; no user-facing setting or message contract changes.
Contribution Guidelines: Read and agreed. ### Documentation Impact
No documentation change: the user-facing flow (activate / edit / delete a provider profile) is unchanged; only the state each live view ends up with, and the durability ordering inside deletion, changed.
Split-unit issue reference
No approved upstream issue exists for this change. This pull request is one unit of a declared split of a larger change, and the split plan, the unit boundaries and this unit's acceptance criteria are recorded on the tracking issue in this repository: #1992. That issue is the home for this unit's review dispositions and follow-up registrations, which is why no approved issue is linked above.
All 31 review threads are resolved. The nine latest AT-HEAD walkthrough rows were re-verified against this head:
Temporary-viewId adoption (ClineProvider.ts load/rekey) - addressed: rekeyPersistedViewStateEntry treats temporary ids as session counters; a stable entry wins and the temporary entry is dropped, so an unrelated earlier view's entry is not adopted as a stable rekey.
undoHistoryWrite assigned without a landed history write - addressed: the closure is a no-op when no history item existed before the switch, and the comment matches the code.
Deletion compensation vs concurrent profile-list mutations - addressed: the compensation re-reads the stored list and splices only the deleted profile back at its previous index (test: "restores the deleted profile without dropping one another instance upserted meanwhile").
Cancelled deletion not rolled back after the settings commit - addressed (a591a1e): the catch routes every failure, including cancellation, through the compensation; the superseded-contract comments were corrected.
Deleting the active profile dropped the live-state half of the old deleteApiConfiguration -> activateProviderProfile path (Major) - fixed at 8a43f2b: the deletion now completes the activation-side effects when the deleted profile was the active one (globally or for this view): the manager's own current-profile record and the current mode's profile mapping follow the survivor, the current task's API handler is rebuilt from the survivor's settings, the current task's sticky profile is refreshed, and ProviderProfileChanged is emitted. Placement mirrors activateProviderProfileUnlocked: after the try/catch, because the deletion has committed. Proofs in the thread reply.
Multi-tab creation for settled openInNewTab calls (Major) - addressed: the handler unconditionally creates a new panel via openClineInNewTab; the tracked-panel reveal is not on the settled path.
Queue advance contract (Major) - addressed: the queue is deliberately chained to the full run - holding the queue until the run settles is what makes the rollback safe - and the comments describing the superseded contract were corrected.
Sidebar-only title commands visible in the command palette - addressed (6cc68ef, within the marked range): the *InTab variants, which target the tracked tab instance and are meaningless from the palette, are hidden with when: false; the sidebar variants are registered once at activation and target the activation-wired provider directly (no per-view registration, no visible-instance heuristic), which is the pre-unit palette behavior.
Deletion compensation vs other provider instances (Major) - addressed: same merge-style restore as row 3, with a one-to-one negative control.
AT-HEAD thread 4251990874 (Minor, functional correctness): a rejection in the post-commit activation block was reported by the message handler as errors.delete_api_config, misreporting a successful deletion. Fixed: the committed state is posted first, then a distinct ProfileDeletionActivationError (own module profileDeletionError.ts, re-exported by the provider) is thrown; the handler warns with the activation cause instead of the generic delete error.
Proofs at 91dfd64: ClineProvider.spec 317/317, webviewMessageHandler.spec 92/92 (new tests both sides); negative controls 1-red each, restores byte-exact (hash match); tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; eslint clean; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED. Ported to the sibling unit carrying the same deletion code.
CI re-trigger: heads e704ab4 and 67a9649 are empty commits over 91dfd64 (no content change) to re-run flaked lanes; the visual lane passed at e704ab4, and 67a9649 re-runs the mock-e2e 30s-timeout flake ('persists completed task across a fresh extension host' - the identical tree passed e2e-mock at 91dfd64). All verification numbers above apply unchanged.
Security Boundaries / view-state id rows: addressed at d5c69d3. setViewStateId now rejects non-string ids (crafted postMessage), bounds the key length (MAX_VIEW_STATE_ID_LENGTH), and refuses ids already owned by another live instance; a refused view stays on its temporary id against shared state. Regression tests: non-string, oversized, claimed-by-another-view. Negative controls: disabling the ownership check reddens exactly the claim test; widening the length bound reddens exactly the oversized test; restores byte-exact (hash match).
The spec gained an afterEach clearing the static instance registry (suites construct providers directly and never dispose most of them; leaked instances would claim ids ahead of later tests).
Persistence Integrity setValues/setValue ordering rows: verified already addressed by the pushed code: _saveViewLocalStateFromMutation persists the non-secret subset before updating the buffer; the re-key is a single queued write (no delete-then-write window; authorship clears only after the write lands); the mutation hook keeps the buffer synced across setValue/setValues and profile upsert/activation/deletion.
Deletion sibling-state: addressed - rePinViewLocalStateForDeletedProfile re-pins other live views still buffered on a deleted profile (buffer + durable entry), and deletion snapshots/compensates every store it rewrites. Re-key persistence: single queued write, temp entry survives a failed write.
The three shared-view handoff tests now dispose the writer before the next view adopts the id (the ownership rule being enforced); the durable entry stays in storage across the handoff.
Proofs at d5c69d3: sticky-mode 33/33, ClineProvider.spec 317/317, webviewMessageHandler.spec 92/92; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.
Non-activating saves (upsertProviderProfile with activate=false, and the zoo-gateway callback's non-active path) rewrote the profile on disk but left pinned views serving the pre-save snapshot; the non-activating branch now refreshes pinned sibling views (and this view when it holds the pin), and the callback routes through upsertProviderProfile so the refresh cannot be forgotten.
getState() no longer spreads the pinned overlay over the shared provider settings (a key the profile never defined leaked in from the shared profile: model id, region, tuning). The overlay is a complete snapshot: used in place, with only apiProvider falling back to shared state.
Regression tests: "refreshes views pinned to a profile saved without activation"; "does not leak shared provider keys into a pinned view's api configuration; the zoo-gateway callback test asserts the upsert path.
Negative controls: dropping the else-branch refresh reddens exactly the refresh test, reverting the merge semantics reddens exactly the leak test; restores byte-exact (hash match).
Proofs at bf474cd: ClineProvider.spec green, sticky-mode and webviewMessageHandler green, eslint --max-warnings=0 clean, tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines, prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.
Follow-up: overlay read from the view buffer (required-lane fix)
The previous round's overlay-completeness change read the overlay from the merged state values, which also carry the raw apiConfiguration state key. That key is a partial patch written by shared-store paths, not a view snapshot: with no overlay present and the raw key partial, getState() served only the partial object and dropped the shared provider settings the previous merge produced (the parallel-mode activation tests caught exactly this - the activated profile's model id vanished; required lane red on the units carrying that spec). The overlay is now read from the view buffer itself, where a present value is by contract a complete profile and an absent one means the shared store serves the settings.
Proofs: ClineProvider.parallelMode.spec green where present (the six synchronization tests that regressed), ClineProvider.spec green including the overlay-completeness tests, sticky-mode and webviewMessageHandler green; negative control: reverting the overlay to a shallow merge over the shared settings still reddens exactly the leak test; restores byte-exact (hash match); eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.
Follow-up: active task handlers rebuilt on non-activating saves (head 7b107d3)
A review round on the view-identity unit found that the non-activating-save refresh updated pinned views' buffers but not their active tasks' API handlers, and the posted state prefers the task's own apiConfiguration: a conversation running in a view pinned to the saved profile kept sending the old token (e.g. after the Zoo Gateway callback rotated it) even though the view's buffer had caught up. The refresh now rebuilds the affected tasks' handlers in the pinned views, and the non-activating branch rebuilds this view's own handler when it holds the pin.
Proofs: ClineProvider.spec green (the pinned-sibling refresh test now asserts the active task's handler is rebuilt with the saved settings, not just the private buffer); negative control: dropping the rebuild from the refresh reddens exactly that assertion, restores byte-exact (hash match); parallelMode/sticky-mode/webviewMessageHandler green; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.
Follow-up: test-quality round from the review (head eda590a)
The review round on the api-wiring unit named four test-quality issues; the ones present in this unit are fixed here: the viewStates describe block moved out of the alwaysDenyUnapprovedCommands block (test names carried the wrong subject), the prune test's toBeDefined() survival checks replaced with exact-shape toEqual assertions (they pass even if pruning strips fields), the stale-temporary-entry test's fixed 10 ms wait replaced with awaiting the load itself (the negative assertion could pass vacuously on a slow load), and the readiness-cancel test's fake timers restored in a finally block (a failed assertion left fake timers active and hung a later real-timer test).
Proofs: global-settings 9/9 where present, ClineProvider.spec green, sticky-mode green where present, api-task-control green where present; negative controls: pruning that strips updatedAt reddens exactly the prune test, a loadViewState that adopts the unowned temporary-id entry reddens exactly the stale-entry test, restores byte-exact (hash match); eslint --max-warnings=0 clean (src and types); prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.
Follow-up: review-round fixes from the series (head acfd9ae)
A review round on the mode-profile-writes unit found that the profile-deletion re-pin updated each sibling view's buffer but not its running task: the posted state prefers the task's own apiConfiguration, so a conversation in a view pinned to the deleted profile kept sending the deleted profile's settings. The re-pin now rebuilds the sibling's API handler with the replacement's settings and re-points the task's sticky profile name, mirroring the activation path.
Proofs: ClineProvider.spec and sticky-mode green; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED. The rebuild's negative control (dropping it reddens exactly the sibling re-pin test, byte-exact restore) runs in the units that own that test.
Updated this round (port of the two upstream PR 1921 review fixes)
Ported the two fixes landed on the sibling unit (fork PR 43 / upstream PR 1921 at 2e932e8). This unit carries the same shared code (provider-profile mutation queue + sibling re-pin), so the same review findings apply to this branch:
providerProfileMutationQueue is now shared across instances (static). The per-instance queue let a second view commit between this view's shared write and its snapshot compensation, and the compensation restored a stale copy over the newer write; one queue now serializes every view's profile mutations against each other.
The sibling re-pin now switches each view's task (API handler rebuild + sticky profile name) only after every sibling's re-pin landed. Running those updates inside the per-sibling loop left a successful sibling's task on the replacement's handler and sticky name while its pin was compensated back to the deleted profile after a later sibling's rejected re-pin rolled the deletion back.
Tests: this unit has no ClineProvider.parallelMode.spec.ts (parallel-mode lineage), so both regression tests land in ClineProvider.spec.ts next to the existing re-pin rollback tests - cross-instance serialization + sibling-task rollback - adapted to this unit's manager-double and saveViewState pin conventions.
Proofs: ClineProvider.spec 321/321 (2 new tests); sticky-mode + sticky-profile + webviewMessageHandler 143/143; negative controls: per-instance queue shadow reddens exactly the serialization test, task updates moved back into the per-sibling loop redden exactly the sibling-task test, both restores byte-exact (hash match 7c41a7db88ee1710); eslint --max-warnings=0 clean, suppression counts unchanged; tsc = 2 known donor telemetry-dist noise lines only (real 0); prettier touched files clean and the full merge-ref tree gate ALL-MATCHED @617037b1c (base 54b3890).
Updated this round (CodeRabbit follow-up, head 28e969c)
Non-activating profile saves no longer force-rebuild the API handler of a view whose active task follows a different sticky profile: both rebuild sites (the acting view's pinned branch and the pinned-sibling refresh) are guarded by taskApiConfigName === saved profile; pinned-view overlays still refresh. Regression tests cover both sites (negative control: removing either guard reddens exactly its test).
Test hygiene: prune assertions compare full kept entries; the webview state-payload test renamed to describe what it asserts.
Updated this round (CodeRabbit follow-up 2, head 9afc9d8)
Deleted-profile re-pin: the forced task-handler rebuild and the sticky-name rewrite (post-loop task pass in this unit's compensated re-pin) now require taskApiConfigName === deleted profile (the view-buffer re-pin stays unconditional), so a pinned view whose task follows another sticky profile keeps its conversation's settings and persisted profile name. Regression test included (negative control: removing the guard reddens exactly that test).
Per the AGENTS.md policy (never add Stryker directives; remove them when a file is touched), all // Stryker disable directives were dropped from this PR. Equivalence rationale for the removed suppressions:
Stryker disable next-line ConditionalExpression: defensive clobber guard, unreachable per the ordering argument above.
Stryker disable next-line StringLiteral: setPanel branches only on type === "sidebar", so any other literal routes to the identical tab-ref assignment
Stryker disable next-line StringLiteral: setPanel only distinguishes "sidebar"; any other value routes to the tab-ref assignment
Stryker disable next-line ConditionalExpression,BlockStatement: hostile non-stabilizing encodings are unreachable from the webview (its posts are plain link targets); the bound is defensive
Stryker disable next-line CallExpression: hostile non-stabilizing encodings are pinned by the direct decodeUntrustedPathToStable bound test; the webview never posts such values
Stryker disable next-line ConditionalExpression,OptionalChaining: equivalent mutant - when localStorage is unavailable the guard-false path and the throwing body both return this.fallbackState from this catch
Stryker disable next-line ConditionalExpression,OptionalChaining: equivalent mutant - when localStorage is unavailable the guard-false path and the throwing body both mark the write failed and return newState
CR round 2026-10-15
resetState() now broadcasts across live providers (broadcastResetToAllInstances, the same slice this series ships in the cross-instance-reset units): the shared durable viewStates slot is cleared once through the persisted write queue, every live view's in-memory buffer (which can hold a deleted profile's settings, API keys included) is dropped, and each sibling view is reposted. Regression test added; dropping the broadcast reddens exactly that test.
Corrected the stale "per instance" queue comments (compensation path and its test): the queue is static and serializes provider-profile mutations across views; the remaining hazard is the queue-bypassing profile-list writes (saveApiConfiguration/renameApiConfiguration/getListApiConfiguration handlers, launch-time listApiConfigMeta sync).
Deletion re-points closed views: deleteProviderProfile now re-points persisted pins of disposed views onto the surviving profile, records the write in the landed-flags set, and rolls the exact pre-deletion map back through the serialized queue on failure (CR Persistence Integrity).
Activation writes from the stored record (read-back feeds every post-save consumer; CR Security Boundaries).
Clear/re-point cache rollback on durable write failure (CR Persistence Integrity).
Verification: new tests are focused negative controls (reverting each guard reddens exactly the matching test); ClineProvider.spec, webviewMessageHandler.spec spot-checks, api specs, spec-inclusive tsc --noEmit, eslint --max-warnings=0 (suppression counts unchanged) and prettier all green on this head.
Merged the current upstream/main (merge commit; the row-9 fix commit is unchanged and is the first parent) to clear the review gate's mergeability hold. Upstream refactored upsertProviderProfile into a new persistProviderProfile method and added a runToCompletion queue option; this unit's transactional body was ported into the new method unchanged and upstream's Promise.allSettled activation fix was adopted in it. One deliberate adaptation: upstream opts upsertProviderProfile into runToCompletion; this unit does not, because its contract is the landed-write compensation - the mutation timeout must abort the run so the compensation rolls the record and the stores back, which is what the cancellation tests pin. ClineProvider.spec, webviewMessageHandler.spec, tsc --noEmit, eslint (suppression counts unchanged) and prettier re-verified green at this head. The first refreshed head's windows unit-test lane caught that upstream's new updateProfileModel tests in ClineProvider.apiHandlerRebuild.spec.ts mock the settings manager with a static getProfile, which starves the post-save read-back; the mock now repoints getProfile at what saveConfig wrote (the real manager's behavior), and the file's 38 tests pass locally alongside the rest of the verification set. Three of upstream's new tests are adapted to this unit's abort-and-compensate upsert semantics (documented in comments): the timed-out upsert cancels and rolls back instead of running to completion, and the restore-path tests account for the compensation's record rollback and the serialized write order.
Round 2 (head 4d002c4, then merged to 1c1ac88) — CodeRabbit 00:44:15Z coverage rows
Two Trivial threads from the 00:44:15Z review on c2206c5a3, both answered test-only, written test-first and measured against the pre-change implementation before any assertion was kept:
src/core/config/__tests__/ProviderSettingsManager.spec.ts: storage-read-failure tests added in the DeleteConfig block (line 986) and the LoadConfig block for getProfile (line 1139), in the shape the review specified. Both measure green against c2206c5a3: deleteConfig rethrows a storage outage as Failed to delete config: …, getProfile as Failed to get profile: …, and load() as Failed to read provider profiles from secrets: …, so nothing is laundered into ProviderSettingsNotFoundError today, and deleteProviderProfile's not-found-only swallow (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:3608-3617) cannot mistake an outage for a missing profile and prune a list entry whose record is still stored. Controls, one implementation edit each: typing the outage as not-found in deleteConfig → 1 failed | 64 passed (the DeleteConfig row); the same in getProfile → 1 failed | 64 passed (the LoadConfig row); production restored byte-identical (ProviderSettingsManager.ts sha256 prefix c558dde7f04939ee).
src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.sticky-profile.spec.ts: new test after the mid-deletion case — leaves a sibling view's shared settings on the survivor it activated mid-deletion. A second view, sharing the acting view's ContextProxy the way production builds the tab view (activate/registerCommands.ts:449; documented at src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:3634-3636), activates other-survivor inside the intercepted manager.deleteConfig; after the deletion both views' getProviderSettings().openRouterModelId must read openai/gpt-4o. This also measures green against c2206c5a3: the shared settings are not stale at that interception point today. Controls: dropping the activation's write of the survivor's settings (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:4100) → 1 failed | 25 passed; making the deletion push its own entry-time survivor's settings over the shared store even though nothing re-points → 1 failed | 25 passed; restored byte-identical (ClineProvider.ts sha256 prefix cb8f121752f6ce5f).
Assertion shapes are stated in the threads as the repo standard for both classes — storage-failure assertions (mockRejectedValue(new Error("Storage failed")) → catch → not.toBeInstanceOf(ProviderSettingsNotFoundError) → toMatchObject({ message: expect.stringContaining("<method prefix>:") }), plus expect(mockSecrets.store).not.toHaveBeenCalled() on write paths) and cross-view assertions made against a shared ContextProxy — so #1550 and #1919 converge instead of drifting.
Verification at this head: junction pre-flight first (every src/node_modules/@roo-code/* link in this worktree pointed into split-1833/u7 and was repointed to this worktree's own packages/*), tsc --noEmit 0 errors, eslint --prune-suppressions --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored exit 0 on every touched file with counts unchanged (ClineProvider.sticky-profile.spec.ts 15 → 15, ProviderSettingsManager.spec.ts no entries), prettier --check clean, ProviderSettingsManager.spec.ts 65 passed, ClineProvider.sticky-profile.spec.ts 26 passed, and neighbours ClineProvider.spec.ts 475, webviewMessageHandler.spec.ts 151, ClineProvider.apiHandlerRebuild.spec.ts 39, ClineProvider.lockApiConfig.spec.ts 2, ClineProvider.flicker-free-cancel.spec.ts 13.
git merge upstream/main (e943530 — #2223 time/date-format settings on top of #2294 and #1207) conflicted in three files; each is resolved toward main's content with our behaviour kept beside it:
src/core/config/ContextProxy.ts: main's updateGlobalState owns the rejected-write contract now (per-key write owner, cache corrected by reading the Memento back), so our per-key generation/confirmed-value stateWrites map is removed rather than run in parallel with it. ContextProxy.spec's rejection test gained the Memento content its fixture was missing (mockGlobalState.get now models what storage holds), because the correction reads from the Memento and not from our cache; the assertion itself is unchanged and still reddens (4 failed | 62 passed) when the read-back line is removed.
src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts: kept our per-view layer and the shared-write compensation in setValues, folded main's withoutInvalidDisplaySettings gate in ahead of our mode gate (different key classes, both keep their logs), and took main's three new fields (timeFormat, dateFormat, showRelativeTimes) into getStateToPostToWebview read from mergedStateValues rather than stateValues, so the per-view overlay still applies to them.
src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts: main's isInvalidDisplayValue guard first, then our provider-profile and host-owned boundary guards; all three log and drop the key, and none reorders the normalisation below them.
Suppression effect of the merge: two counts decreased (api/providers/__tests__/lm-studio-timeout.spec.ts 3 → 0, api/providers/qwen-code.ts 1 → 0), none increased. Post-merge verification at 1c1ac88: tsc --noEmit 0 errors; eslint exit 0 on all eight touched files; prettier reports every touched file unchanged; ContextProxy.spec.ts 66, ProviderSettingsManager.spec.ts 65, ClineProvider.sticky-profile.spec.ts 26, webviewMessageHandler.spec.ts 185, ClineProvider.apiHandlerRebuild.spec.ts 39, ClineProvider.lockApiConfig.spec.ts 2, ClineProvider.flicker-free-cancel.spec.ts 13, extension/__tests__/api-configuration.spec.ts 9, and the webview-ui settings/timestamp lane (LanguageSettings.timeFormat, SettingsView, SettingsView.change-detection, ChatRow.timestamp, MessageTimestamp) 133 passed.
Round 6 (gate-threads)
Two things landed here since 0579f8d04.
2b7a41d58 — the shared store stays paired with the selection when a deletion races a sibling write. This started as a measurement, not a guess: deleteProviderProfile decides what the shared provider-settings store owes the selection once the record is gone, but every guard in that decision keys off something re-pointing at the survivor. Every view in the host shares one ContextProxy (ContextProxy.getInstance, passed to the sidebar at extension.ts:241 and to a tab provider at registerCommands.ts:437/453), so a sibling can move the shared selection onto a survivor and carry the name alone; when that write lands after the deletion re-reads the selection, no live pin, no persisted pin and not the acting view's own pin name the deleted profile, so all the guards stay closed and the store goes on carrying the deleted profile's settings under the survivor's name - which is what every view without an overlay of its own serves. The repair works from the invariant: when the selection names a surviving profile, this deletion wrote no shared settings, and the store still equals the deleted profile's stored record, read the selected profile's settings, pin into their overlays any view that would otherwise inherit them, and replace the store. A sibling write that did carry settings has already repaired the pairing and the record comparison leaves it alone. Regression test plus controls: without the production hunks the file reports 1 failed | 498 passed (499), the failure showing apiKey: "doomed-key" under keeper-profile; with them, 499 passed. Full suite after the change: 46 failed | 12779 passed | 37 skipped (12862) against a pre-change baseline run of 47 failed | 12777 passed (12861) - one test added, no new failure (the difference in failures is a flaking Task.spec.ts case that passed this time). No test on either branch had ever exercised this interleaving: the four deletion tests that write the selection inside an async callback are all single-provider, and the only mid-deletion second operation writes the selection through the same provider's queue, so it settles after the deletion.
Thread state. Rows DOSK-bwM6z6OCB, OCN, OCP, OCS, OCb and Vop are answered with the commit that landed each fix on this branch and the control numbers from that landing, and resolved. Row OCX (the postStateToWebview inside the compensated write group) is answered and left open: the non-fatal post helper it describes has never existed on either branch (git log -S finds no commit carrying that string), so it has to be written, and which branch carries it is the lead's call. The new row 4477073508 on src/activate/registerCommands.ts (track every live tab panel; select a survivor when the tracked one closes) was verified against 2b7a41d58 and is valid - onDidChangeViewState at 492-508 already assumes several tab panels stay live while onDidDispose at 511-520 only clears the reference - answered and left open pending its own commit on this branch.
Round 6 addendum (gate-threads)
Row 4477073508 is no longer open. It landed on this branch as bc729fcc9, its own commit: the successor for the tab ref is now chosen deliberately from the live tab-mode provider instances (preference: active, then visible, then any live panel), the onDidDispose guard reads "no live panel is tracked, or the tracked one is this panel" because the provider's own view-dispose handler clears the ref first, and the last-live-panel case is pinned as its own test so the ref stays clear there rather than pointing at the panel that was just disposed. Controls and the tier measurements are on the thread; the row is resolved.
That moved the parent head, so vps2-f2c's merge of this branch was discarded and rebuilt from bc729fcc9 rather than amended: new merge commit e8b2ac051 (parents a691f24c9, bc729fcc9). Full suite on this branch after bc729fcc9: 46 failed | 12785 passed | 37 skipped (12868) - six tests added, same 46 pre-existing environmental failures. Task.spec.ts flakes between runs of the same tree, so a delta in that file either way is not a repair.
This head folds the four open review rows on this branch into one commit:
postStateToWebview moved out of the compensated group in deleteProviderProfileUnlocked (log-only failure), so a state-refresh rejection after the deletion committed no longer resurrects the profile record while the sibling re-pins stay on the replacement. Two rollback cases were retargeted onto a failure point inside the group (the re-pinned sibling's own post) so they measure the rollback rather than the position of the refresh; the new case pins that a failed post leaves the deletion committed and logs it. Control: with the post still inside the group, 1 failed / 499 passed - only the new case.
disposeFailedTabCreation now hands the tracked tab ref to pickTabPanelSurvivor() instead of clearing it, so a creation failure no longer strands live tab panels; same selector and same pool as the disposal path. Control: reverting that hunk reddens only the new failed-creation case, 1 failed / 69 passed.
Two afterEach hooks reset ClineProvider.getInstanceForView / getAllInstances, because vi.clearAllMocks keeps implementations and survivor fixtures were leaking registry state into later tests.
The sticky-profile case that deletes a child profile now disposes its sibling provider in a finally, so it stops leaving a live instance in the static registry.
Gates on this head: tsc clean, eslint clean with src/eslint-suppressions.json unchanged, prettier --check clean, hooks (lint-staged, pre-push check-types) ran on both pushes. Focused: registerCommands.spec.ts 78, ClineProvider.spec.ts 500, ClineProvider.sticky-profile.spec.ts 26. Full suite 45 failed | 12816 passed | 37 skipped - 40 __tests__/dist_assets.spec.ts (no built dist) + 5 services/rules/__tests__/rules.spec.ts (Windows symlinks), same environmental classes as the base; src/core/task/Task.spec.ts is a known inter-run flake and did not fail in this run.
…en view-identity tests
Track the in-flight tab panel creation with a module-level promise so concurrent openClineInNewTab calls reuse one panel and provider (adds a Promise.all regression test). ClineProvider.spec sets the private view via the public resolveWebviewView() instead of a ts-ignore assignment. registerCommands.spec types evictCurrentTask/refreshWorkspace on the fixture and drops the as any attachment. eslint-suppressions: prune the registerCommands.spec.ts entry (two as any suppressions removed).
…-bar posts
- openClineInNewTab: extract the unserialized creation body into
createTabPanelUnlocked and guard the in-flight slot clear so a settled
creation cannot clobber a replacement already stored in the slot.
- onDidDispose: clear the tracked tab ref only when the disposing panel is
still the tracked one, so a late disposal of a replaced panel cannot
clobber the replacement's ref.
- MDM lookup failure: log the fallback to the output channel instead of
swallowing it silently.
- Route the six title-bar button handlers through a shared postActions
helper that posts each action in order and logs failures with the
handler-specific prefix.
- package.json: add the four InTab commands to the command palette, scoped
to the active tab panel.
- Tests: handler-level regression for openInNewTab + popoutButtonClicked
started before the first creation resolves; fresh-creation test for a
settled in-flight promise; stale-panel disposal regression; retained
panel assertion for disposed tab instances; rightmost-editor column
placement assertion; MDM fallback output assertion; %s placeholders for
primitive it.each titles.
- Stryker directives for the two equivalent setPanel type-literal mutants
(setPanel branches only on type === sidebar).
Replace the weak toBeDefined() assertion in the dispose spec with an
identity check against the panel returned during creation, per the
CodeRabbit actionable comment on this PR (review run 7c4cfeb3-6dd9-4615-
9a58-70cfc705eca2). The tracked tab is now pinned with toBe(panel)
before the dispose assertions, so a wrong or duplicated tracked panel
fails the suite instead of passing a defined-only check.
Upstream: Zoo-Code-Org#1528 (vps2 F0)
Retain the tracked tab panel in the InTab handler cases and assert that
getInstanceForView was called with that exact panel, per the CodeRabbit
actionable comment on this PR (review run 4afe1273-8739-4235-90d3-311db5f6ccb9,
inline comment 3952466254 on the tabHandlerCases spec). A handler resolving
any other view now fails instead of passing on the stubbed provider result
alone; the same identity pin is applied to plusButtonClickedInTab.
Upstream: Zoo-Code-Org#1528 (vps2 F0)
…States
Each ClineProvider instance now owns a unique viewId (renderContext plus a
monotonic counter) and registers a stable viewStateId for durable persistence.
- Per-view state buffer (viewLocalState) holds mode / currentApiConfigName /
apiConfiguration overrides in memory; saveViewState persists the non-secret
subset durably under the active view id, rekeyed to the stable id on
registration.
- viewStates is stored as a map pruned to the newest 50 entries; writes go
through a serialized queue so concurrent provider instances merge without
lost updates.
- setViewStateId sanitizes ids and rejects "__proto__" so a per-view entry can
never be keyed through the Object.prototype setter.
- postMessageToWebview no longer awaits the webview ack: a remounted or
disposed page never acknowledges, and awaiting would wedge task-critical
callers.
- History restore falls back to the default mode view-locally instead of
writing the shared global mode.
- GlobalState gains the "viewStates" key and GLOBAL_STATE_KEYS tracks it.
Adds F1a coverage in ClineProvider.spec.ts (viewId uniqueness, saveViewState
persistence semantics, loadViewState fallback and failure, pruning, the
__proto__ guard) and adapts the two history-restore tests in
ClineProvider.sticky-mode.spec.ts to the view-local restore. getState()
merging of hydrated per-view values and the remaining view-state suites land
in the follow-up (F1b).
…nd target tab-instance commands
Reapply in-flight view-local fields with Object.is identity so a field cleared during the load window stays cleared; route mode switches through setValue so the in-memory buffer and durable write agree, with rollback on failure; refresh cross-instance view-local state on profile upsert, activate and delete and re-pin the buffer after a delete; point focusInput and active-panel re-registration at the tracked tab provider and panel; log dropped webview postMessage failures with the message type; pin tab-instance, focusInput and active-panel identity in the registerCommands tests and type the mdm double in the provider spec.
…apture view pin on delete
Address CodeRabbit walkthrough findings on the F1a unit:
- handleModeSwitchUnlocked now bails before the task-level writes when the abort signal has fired, closing the partial-apply window where a cancelled switch could still rewrite the persisted task mode; the existing pre-write guard still covers in-flight aborts.
- Replace bracket access to sibling-instance private members with a typed pinnedProfileName getter and direct private member access (compile-time safe across instances).
- deleteProviderProfile now captures this view's pin before the currentApiConfigName rewrite so a view pinned to the deleted profile while the global selection points elsewhere is still reconfigured with the surviving profile's settings.
Tests: focusInput asserts the tab panel by identity and that no error was logged on the success path; the stalled getProfile double fails loudly on a second lookup (only one lookup is resolvable).
…-local profile pins
handleModeSwitchUnlocked: an abort landing while updateTaskHistory is in flight previously left the new mode persisted in task history and assigned to task._taskMode before the pre-write signal check bailed; the landed write is now rolled back to the pre-switch item and the method returns before the TaskModeSwitched emit and the durable mode write. TaskModeSwitched now only fires for a completed transition. deleteProviderProfile: the unconditional setValue('currentApiConfigName', ...) overwrote a view's pin when an unrelated profile was deleted; the pin is now re-pointed only when it names the deleted profile, and a deleted-was-global deletion updates the shared store only. The nested apiConfiguration overlay is replaced with the surviving profile's settings only for a view pinned to the deleted profile.
…tore
deleteProviderProfile pruned the UI-facing listApiConfigMeta entry but never removed the profile's settings from the ProviderSettingsManager store (context.secrets), so a later listApiConfigMeta sync could resurrect the deleted profile and a dangling per-mode mapping could re-activate it.
The purge now calls providerSettingsManager.deleteConfig and branches on the typed ProviderSettingsNotFoundError (introduced here alongside) so an already-gone secret is an idempotent success -- the stale list entry is still pruned -- while any other failure (e.g. the store refusing to delete the last remaining configuration) propagates. Matching message text instead would let a profile whose name contains 'not found' swallow an unrelated failure.
Tests: the dangling-mode-mapping resurrection scenario, the already-gone secret, the store-level last-profile refusal, the typed-signal contract in the manager spec, and provider-level not-found/propagation pins.
A failed task-history rollback during an aborted mode switch previously propagated into the outer persistence-error handler and surfaced as the switch's own persistence failure. Guard the rollback with its own try/catch so the rollback error is logged with task context and the cancellation return is preserved (CodeRabbit finding on this PR).
…d switch
The in-flight abort rollback rewrote the whole task-history item with the pre-switch snapshot, clobbering any fields the running task persisted during the pending window (tokens, cost, status, apiConfigName). Re-read the item and restore only the mode this switch changed (CodeRabbit data-integrity finding on this PR).
Rebasing onto main tip merged main's createTabPanelUnlocked body with the PR's
serialized creation. Main no longer resolves CodeIndexManager in this function,
so the leftover line referenced an import the PR never added and the suite
failed with ReferenceError. Removing it restores the PR's own delta: 48
registerCommands tests and 459 F1a tests pass.
…overrides
Fold ClineProvider viewLocalState on top of ContextProxy values in getState() (mode, apiConfiguration, and all per-view fields) so each webview reports its own selections while falling back to shared global state for everything else. Ports the getState-merging and local-state-isolation spec coverage from the superseded vps2 source.
Also pins the full default surface of the merged read path, including the apiConfiguration provider fill-in when provider settings sanitize the raw value away (mutation-diff gate).
Rebuilding the F1b unit as main tip + its own delta cleared the conflict with
main. The patch was authored against an older main, so applying it dropped the
alwaysDenyUnapprovedCommands entry from getState(); restoring it with the shared
default constant keeps the settings round trip complete. 410 tests pass.
Editor tabs now offer dedicated New Task, Settings, Marketplace, and History actions.
View-specific mode and provider selections are saved and restored independently, while settings imports and exports leave these selections unchanged.
Bug Fixes
Opening tasks in tabs handles overlapping requests and closed panels more reliably.
Profile changes and deletions better handle missing profiles and activation issues, with clearer error feedback.
Settings changes are more resilient to storage failures, and invalid profile selections are corrected during launch.
The changes add persisted per-view state and launch identity, update profile selection and mutation handling, and route editor-tab commands to tracked tab providers. They also change tab creation coordination and browser fallback state handling.

Profile lifecycle and selection
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Profile lookup and not-found errors src/core/config/ProviderSettingsManager.ts, src/core/config/__tests__/ProviderSettingsManager.spec.ts
Adds ProviderSettingsNotFoundError and getCurrentProfileName(). Tests distinguish missing profiles from storage read failures.
Launch recovery and view-scoped settings src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts, src/core/webview/__tests__/webviewMessageHandler.spec.ts
Launch handling repairs invalid profile selections and logs view-state registration failures without stopping launch. Generic settings updates skip provider-profile and host-owned fields. Custom-mode deletion resets the acting view and clears matching sibling overrides.
Profile rename, deletion, and compensation src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts, src/core/webview/profileDeletionError.ts, src/core/webview/__tests__/*
Profile renames check destination records and attempt cleanup or rollback after failures. Deletion routes through the provider and reports replacement-activation failures separately. Tests cover rename compensation, deletion during selection changes, and activation queue timing.
Editor-tab commands and panel lifecycle
Layer / File(s)
Summary
Sidebar and tab command routing packages/types/src/vscode.ts, src/package.json, src/activate/registerCommands.ts, src/activate/__tests__/registerCommands.spec.ts
Adds tab-specific command IDs and menu contributions. Command handlers route tab actions to the provider for the tracked panel and keep sidebar actions on the registered sidebar provider.
Tab creation, reuse, and cleanup src/activate/registerCommands.ts, src/core/webview/ClineProviderFactory.ts, src/activate/__tests__/registerCommands.spec.ts, src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProviderFactory.spec.ts, src/__tests__/extension.spec.ts
Ordinary opens share an in-flight creation and can reuse a tracked panel. Forced opens create independently. Failed setup attempts provider and panel cleanup; factory calls request forced creation.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#1528: Routes title-bar commands to the provider for the click-origin surface, matching this change’s tab-specific command routing.
Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#1735: Adds profile deletion, replacement activation, and failure restoration flows related to this change’s profile deletion handling.
Security Architecture Review
Security architecture risk:🟡 Moderate · up to b4057
Owner-specific command routing improves isolation between views. However, profile deletion can propagate a replacement profile name without matching configuration after a lookup failure. This could leave subsequent work using an unintended account or endpoint. Failure and recovery coverage remains incomplete.
Retained concerns
Medium · security · inferred: The new multi-view deletion transition publishes replacement profile names even when replacement configuration lookup fails. Configuration replacement is conditional, but durable re-pinning continues, leaving affected views capable of serving the deleted profile’s cached configuration under another profile’s name. This extends a pre-existing shared-selection inconsistency into other live views and their persisted selections.
Security review details
Security Blast Radius
inferred — The identified consistency exposure extends to live provider views sharing the profile and settings store, including views other than the deletion initiator. Its sensitive consequence is subsequent work inheriting unintended provider configuration; broader tenant, service, environment, or IAM exposure has not been established.
Security Findings and Attack Paths
inferred — If the public deletion transition runs and replacement lookup fails, it can persist the replacement name while retaining the removed profile’s configuration overlay. Later task creation can consume that configuration. This supports a conditional account or endpoint misselection risk, not verified exfiltration or an unauthenticated attack path; production caller reachability remains unresolved.
Trust Boundaries and Controls
observed — Client-supplied persistence IDs are normalized and reject proto; restoration checks that persisted modes still resolve. These are storage-key and semantic-validation controls, not demonstrated authentication controls. Tab command ownership uses actual panel identity rather than the client-supplied persistence ID.
Resilience and Maintainability Implications
observed — Tracked-tab handlers stop when no owning provider resolves. Concurrent tab creation shares a pending operation, and disposal clears the tracked panel only when identities match, containing ordinary duplicate-creation and stale-cleanup failures.
Hardening Proposals
proposed — Resolve and validate replacement configuration before committing deletion, and reconcile selected identity and effective settings together across affected views. If reconciliation fails, prevent affected views from starting new work until a matching configuration is established.
proposed — For the residual mode-cancellation limitation, define a terminal cancellation contract covering every durable write and late completion. Validate compensation and ordering when cancellation occurs during shared or per-view persistence, rather than treating pre-write checks as complete cancellation protection.

Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "test(webview): F2a - profile-mutation state semantics and the mode-rollback guard" names the main change. The changeset adds cross-view refresh and re-pin of profile mutations, deletion compensation, and a mode-rollback guard, and the title covers these with a conventional prefix. The title is long at 81 characters, and "F2a" is an internal unit label that a teammate scanning history may not recognize. The title also leads with "test(webview)" although the changeset is mostly production code in ClineProvider, webviewMessageHandler, and registerCommands, with tests as a large share.
Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
The changed view-state path still trusts a renderer-controlled ID after the original view is disposed. webviewDidLaunch passes message.viewStateId to setViewStateId (src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts:622-634). setViewStateId checks syntax and only live instances (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:1100-1134), while dispose() removes the provider from activeInstances without clearing its durable viewStates entry (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:1647-1659; clearPersistedViewState is separate). A new webview can submit the disposed view's ID, causing loadViewState to read its pinned profile and full provider record (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:1178-1208; ProviderSettingsManager.ts:459-499). getState() then uses that loaded configuration, including secrets, and postStateToWebview sends it to the new webview (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:5665-5673, 5076-5080). The live-collision test does not cover disposed owners (ClineProvider.sticky-mode.spec.ts:1457-1473).
Resolution
Bind each stable view-state ID to the owning extension-host webview, or replace renderer-chosen IDs with a host-minted capability. Reject IDs that are not issued or bound to the current provider before re-keying or loading persisted state. Preserve only a controlled reload or re-adoption path. Add a regression test that disposes the original provider, submits its known ID through webviewDidLaunch on another provider, and verifies that the disposed view's profile settings and credentials are not loaded or posted.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
The prior persistence-integrity failure remains in the changed deletion transaction. deleteProviderProfileUnlocked changes the acting task to the survivor and rebuilds its API handler at src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:3806-3814, then awaits sibling re-pinning, persisted-view updates, and postStateToWebview at 3819-3826. If any later step rejects, the rollback at 3827-3971 restores stores, pins, and conditionally the task name/history, but never restores task.apiConfiguration or the API handler. Task.updateApiConfiguration replaces both at src/core/task/Task.ts:2494-2502. The sibling path has the same gap: rePinViewLocalStateForDeletedProfile rebuilds handlers at 4585-4596, while its rollback at 4517-4565 restores only pins and sticky name/history. A failed later sibling post or write can therefore leave a live task using the survivor after the deletion itself was rolled back. The changed tests cover successful handler rebuild and pin rollback, but not handler restoration after a later failure.
Resolution
Snapshot each affected task before deletion, including its API handler configuration, taskApiConfigName, and history item. If any later deletion step fails, await restoration of the acting task and every affected sibling task, including the handler/configuration, sticky name, and history. Collect restoration failures and throw a dedicated inconsistent-state error when task or history restoration does not complete.
Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
The standing regression finding remains unresolved. src/package.json changes the visible editor/title menu to four *InTab commands under activeWebviewPanelId == zoo-code.TabPanelProvider (lines 272-292). The PR has unit routing coverage in registerCommands.spec.ts, but no Playwright test opens an active tab panel and checks the rendered title bar. apps/vscode-e2e/src/visual/electron.visual.ts and its four PNG baselines are unchanged; that suite captures only .part.sidebar and the webview. Therefore the durable visible UI change lacks focused Playwright snapshot coverage.
Resolution
Add a Playwright Electron visual test that opens an active zoo-code.TabPanelProvider, waits for the editor title bar, and captures a deterministic snapshot containing New Task, Settings, Marketplace, and History. Commit the matching baseline snapshot. Keep the existing unit routing tests.
Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
The constructor-failure leak remains in the changed tab-creation path. createTabPanelUnlocked executes new ClineProvider(...) at src/activate/registerCommands.ts:497-504 before the cleanup try at line 508. If construction throws after ClineProvider registers itself at ClineProvider.ts:614 and creates WorkspaceTracker at line 640, disposeFailedTabCreation cannot run. WorkspaceTracker owns a file watcher, tab listener, and debounce timers. openClineInNewTab then clears pendingTabPanelCreation in its finally block at lines 399-410, so a retry can create another provider while the failed provider and its resources remain live.
Resolution
Make provider construction exception-safe. Wrap construction in a factory that returns the partially initialized provider and performs rollback, or add constructor rollback. Remove the failed provider from activeInstances and dispose every resource initialized before the failure, including WorkspaceTracker, timers, listeners, tasks, managers, and stores. Keep panel cleanup independent and rethrow the original constructor error.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the repository template in structure: it has Related GitHub Issue, Description, Test Procedure, Pre-Submission Checklist, and Documentation Updates sections. It gives a clear account of the cross-view profile mutation semantics, the deletion compensation, and the verification steps. It does not link an approved GitHub issue with a Closes line. The author explains this on purpose: the PR is one unit of a split series, and the tracking issue (#1992) is referenced with Related. Several sections are missing or incomplete. The Visual Snapshots section and the Videos section are not filled in, though the checklist marks visual snapshots as not applicable. The Get in Touch section (Discord username) is empty. The Test Helpers and Documentation checklist items are partly unchecked or only described in prose. The description is long, contains many round-by-round notes, and mixes in review history, which makes it hard for reviewers to find the key facts. The description also does not follow the Simplified Technical English writing style the template asks for. Many sentences are long and compound, and the text uses contractions in places (for example, 'doesn't' does not appear, but phrases such as 'it's' are rare; long sentences with multiple clauses dominate).
Resolution
Link an approved GitHub issue, or state clearly why none applies and where the split plan is tracked. The current text does this, but the template's Closes line is absent. Fill in the Get in Touch section with a Discord username. Remove or move the per-round review history (for example, the Round 6 and Round 7 addenda and the CR rounds) into a separate comment or changelog so the Description section stays focused on what the PR changes and why. Shorten the long sentences and use one idea per sentence, as the template requests. Complete the Test Helpers checklist item explicitly, since this PR adds test doubles and cleanup hooks. Confirm the Visual Snapshots and Videos sections as not applicable. Keep the Description focused on the how, the design choices, and the reviewer checks.

…and cache paths
Landed as one head so the push fires a single auto-review rather than four.
- ProviderSettingsManager.spec.ts: getProfile's id branch carried reject-path coverage
only, so the test would pass even if every id lookup were refused. Add the accept
path through the same public entry point, asserting the id, the name the id was found
under, and the settings the mode mapping and deleteProviderProfile consume.
- ContextProxy.ts: a rejected globalState write restored whatever the cache held when
that write started. Two writes can be in flight at once, so under correlated storage
failures the current generation restores the other write's never-persisted value and
the cache advertises something storage never accepted. Track the last value storage
confirmed per key, seed it from what storage loaded at initialize(), and restore that
on rejection by the current generation.
- webview-ui/src/utils/vscode.ts: getViewStateId() mirrored the host's normalization
but not its 64-character bound, so a persisted value that normalizes over 64 came back
on every launch and was refused on every launch, stranding the view's pre-launch entry
under the temporary id with nothing to regenerate it. Apply the bound so an over-long
stored value falls through to a freshly generated id. Zoo-Code-Org#2226's host-minted claim token
supersedes this validation path later in the merge order.
- registerCommands.ts: move the onDidDispose comment inside the if block so the file
passes the repository's own prettier check.
All gates ran on this worktree after the pre-flight that relinks src/node_modules/
@roo-code/types to this worktree's own packages/types and confirms node_modules/turbo/

The history wait does not have the claimed pre-write race.
The task starts asynchronously, but the completion callback persists its history through TaskHistoryStore.upsert before emitting TaskCompleted. The store updates its cache only after writing history_item.json, so isTaskInHistory cannot pass before that write completes.
…deletion suite's members
rt4474947849: ContextProxy.updateGlobalState accepted a resolved write as confirmed only while
it still owned the key's generation, so an older write that resolved after a newer write had
started left `confirmed` holding the pre-write value, and a later rejection restored something
no storage ever held. The success path now accepts any resolved write that is newer than the
most recently confirmed generation for the key and mutates the entry in place; the generation
check stays on the restore path alone. ContextProxy.globalStateRestore.spec.ts adds the
A-resolves / B-rejects case and asserts that both getGlobalState(KEY) and storage read "a".
rt4474947862: the deleteApiConfiguration suite in webviewMessageHandler.spec.ts reassigns
providerSettingsManager and deleteProviderProfile and never put them back, so the doomed-profile
fixture leaked into any later test that reads either member without setting its own value. An
afterEach now restores both, matching the snapshot-and-restore the rename and launch suites in
the same file already do; the activation-warning case keeps its own suite so this head stays on
the leak fix rather than a suite reshuffle.
Reply to review thread rt4474947862 (webviewMessageHandler.spec.ts:2284) - posted as a PR comment because that thread was already resolved when I went to answer it.
The deletion suite now snapshots providerSettingsManager and deleteProviderProfile in the suite body and restores both in an afterEach, matching the snapshot-and-restore the rename and launch suites in this file already do (c2206c5a3).
I kept the activation-warning case in its own suite rather than merging it into the deleteApiConfiguration suite: its first test pins the warning-vs-error split (a completed deletion must not be reported as a failed delete) and its second pins the ProfileDeletionActivationError rejection path with showErrorMessage not called for the delete error. Folding them into the routing suite would have meant dropping those assertions, and the finding is about the missing restore, not about the suite layout.
Being explicit about the evidence: no current test catches the leak, and I am not claiming a negative control reddened it. With the afterEach in place the file runs Tests 151 passed (151); with the hook stripped it also runs 151 passed (the file is in the src project - my first attempt ran it under webview-ui, which reported "No test files found" and exit 1, so that path measured nothing). This is leak-prevention hygiene: it stops the doomed-profile fixture from reaching a later test that reads either member without setting its own.

968-969: Fix the stale comment on the re-pin target.
The comment says the view is re-pinned "to the first available profile". The assertion on Line 970 expects "shared-profile", which is the still-valid global selection. The handler re-pins the view to the global selection, not to the first listed profile. An earlier review already flagged this comment. Lines 2201-2202 also contain a broken, duplicated comment fragment ("...through provider.setValue, which" followed by "...through ContextProxy.setValue;").
Proposed fix
- // The view pin is re-pinned to the first available profile,+ // The view pin is re-pinned to the still-valid shared global selection,
// and the shared global selection is left untouched: no global write, no global activation.
86-114: The two it.each variants do not control the settlement order.
Both writes reject during the same microtask sequence because the async update() double throws immediately. The settle helper only changes the order in which the test observes the rejections. It does not change the order in which the storage promises reject. Both variants therefore run the same scenario, and the "B settles first" label is incorrect. To test both orders, return deferred promises from update() and reject A before B in one case and B before A in the other. An earlier review thread already raised this point.
…ettings on profile deletion
Round 2 of the Zoo-Code-Org#1919 review (head c2206c5), tests only.
- ProviderSettingsManager.spec: a storage read failure now has a named contract in both
methods deleteProviderProfile() branches on. deleteConfig() and getProfile() rethrow a
storage outage wrapped ("Failed to delete config: ...", "Failed to get profile: ...")
instead of typing it as ProviderSettingsNotFoundError, so an outage cannot be mistaken
for a missing profile and cannot prune a list entry whose record is still stored.
- ClineProvider.sticky-profile.spec: the mid-deletion case gains the cross-view half it
was missing. A second view, sharing the acting view's ContextProxy the way production
builds the tab view (activate/registerCommands.ts:449), activates the survivor while the
record delete is in flight; the deletion must follow that choice and leave the shared
provider keys carrying that survivor's settings rather than its own entry-time pick.
Both measure green against c2206c5: nothing is laundered and nothing is stale today, so
this round adds coverage rather than changing behaviour. Each assertion was shown to
redden under the regression it guards (typing the outage as not-found in either method,
dropping the activation's settings write, or pushing the entry-time survivor's settings
over the sibling's activation), each on its own.
Conflicts were three files, resolved toward main's content with our behaviour kept beside it:
- src/core/config/ContextProxy.ts: main's updateGlobalState owns the rejected-write contract now
(per-key write owner, cache corrected from the Memento), so our generation/confirmed-value map is
removed rather than run in parallel; ContextProxy.spec's rejection test gains the Memento content
its fixture was missing, since the correction reads from the Memento and not from our cache.
- src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts: kept our per-view layer and shared-write compensation, and took
main's display gate into setValues plus main's three new settings fields in
getStateToPostToWebview, read from mergedStateValues so the per-view overlay still applies to them.
- src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts: main's invalid-display guard first, then our
provider-profile and host-owned boundary guards; all three drop the key and log, none reorders the
normalisation below them.

A TaskModeSwitched listener failure leaves task history on the rejected mode.
updateTaskHistory({ ...taskHistoryItem, mode: newMode }) now runs before task.emit(RooCodeEventName.TaskModeSwitched, ...). If a listener throws, the catch logs and rethrows. It does not restore the history entry. The shared-mode rollback at Lines 2846-2868 is never reached.
Result: _taskMode and the shared mode stay on the previous mode, but the persisted history item names newMode. Reopening the task restores a mode the user never received. The test at ClineProvider.sticky-mode.spec.ts Lines 497-553 mocks updateTaskHistory, so it cannot detect this.
Restore previousHistoryMode in this catch, in the same way the later persistence-failure path does.

Review comments at @src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts:
- Around line 2756-2764: In the activation-failure rollback catch around
saveConfig, repointViewLocalStateAfterProfileRename, and removeOwnRenameRecord,
show the same rename API warning used by the other rollback paths when
compensation fails, while preserving the existing log. Add a test where
activateProviderProfile and the restore saveConfig both reject, and verify the
warning is shown.

Failed pre-merge checks:
- Regression Evidence:
Add a Playwright Electron visual test that opens an active
`zoo-code.TabPanelProvider`, waits for the editor title bar, and captures a
deterministic snapshot containing New Task, Settings, Marketplace, and History.
Commit the baseline snapshot. Keep the routing unit tests.
- Security Boundaries:
Bind each stable view-state ID to its owning extension-host webview, or replace
renderer-chosen IDs with a host-minted capability. Reject IDs that are not
issued or bound to the current provider before re-keying or loading persisted
state. Preserve only a controlled reload or re-adoption path. Add a regression
test that disposes the original provider, submits its known ID through
`webviewDidLaunch` on another provider, and verifies that the disposed view’s
profile settings and credentials are not loaded or posted.
- Persistence Integrity:
Snapshot the acting task before deletion, including its API handler
configuration, `taskApiConfigName`, and history item. If any later deletion step
fails, await restoration of all captured acting and affected sibling task state
and history entries. Track restoration failures instead of logging them as
ordinary rollback failures, and throw a dedicated inconsistent-state error when
task or history restoration cannot complete.
- Lifecycle Resource Cleanup:
Make provider construction exception-safe. Use a factory or constructor rollback
that removes a partially constructed provider from `activeInstances` and
disposes every resource initialized before the failure, including
`WorkspaceTracker`, timers, listeners, tasks, managers, and stores. Keep panel
cleanup independent and rethrow the original constructor error.

GitHub Actions: Changed-code mutation testing / 0_mutation-diff.txt: test(webview): F2a - profile-mutation state semantics and the mode-rollback guard
For persisted settings, verify the complete schema/storage/runtime/webview round trip, shared default semantics, and focused true plus false/unset tests.
Require regression coverage at the lowest valid harness with behavior-focused assertions, including relevant negative, error, false/unset, and boundary cases.
Reserve end-to-end coverage for behavior that requires the real VS Code host, workspace APIs, extension activation, webview messaging, file watchers, or a full workflow.

2702-2717: The case where both re-point calls reject is still untested.
If the reverse re-point at Line 2706 rejects, removeOwnRenameRecord() never runs. The handler then warns and rethrows. The forward-failure test covers only the forward call rejecting. No test makes both calls reject and asserts the preserved state. A prior review thread already raised this gap, and it is still open.

1005-1008: Use mockImplementationOnce for the MDM failure.
This issue is still open. mockImplementation stays active after this test ends because the suite only calls vi.clearAllMocks(). That call clears call history but keeps implementations.
The placement tests at Lines 1038-1122 run after this test. In those tests, MdmService.getInstance still throws, so they run the fallback branch and not the normal MDM path. The test at Line 1124 is not affected because its mockReturnValue replaces the implementation.

86-114: The two it.each cases run the same settlement order.
update() on the Memento double rejects immediately. Both writes are started before the first await. The promises settle in start order: A first, then B. The order of the await expect(...).rejects calls changes only when the test observes each result. It does not change when each write settles.
"B settles first" therefore never tests the case where B rejects before A. Use deferred promises for update(). Reject them in the order that the case name states.
RooCodeAPI declares the method, and src/extension/api.ts provides its implementation. The call at line 67 does not require a change.
webview-ui/src/utils/vscode.ts: 1
82-84: Functional Correctness
No in-tree caller replaces the webview state without viewStateId.
The inspected non-test webview sources contain no setState writer other than the wrapper's own delegation. The getViewStateId() write spreads the existing state. The concern is about a future or unseen caller, and the search found none.
CodeRabbit 2026-11-05 review of Zoo-Code-Org#1919 (thread DOSK-bwM6z6OCB, Minor / Quick win): the throwing implementation installed by the MDM fallback test survives it, because the openClineInNewTab beforeEach at registerCommands.spec:706 only calls vi.clearAllMocks(), which clears call history but keeps implementations, so every later test in the file got a MdmService.getInstance that throws.
Ported from vps2-f2c fa916d2 so the parent branch does not keep the shape the child already fixed. Test-only, no executable line changes. Gates: eslint --max-warnings=0 clean on the file, prettier --check clean, suppressions untouched.
Control: a temporary probe test immediately after the fallback test calls MdmService.getInstance and asserts it does not throw. With mockImplementation the probe is Tests 1 failed | 2 passed | 61 skipped (64) - AssertionError: expected [Function] to not throw an error but Error: MDM service not initialized was thrown. With mockImplementationOnce it is Tests 3 passed | 61 skipped (64). Deleting the probe and keeping the leak gives Tests 1 failed | 63 passed (64) where the only failure is the probe, so the leak is latent rather than a live breakage; the probe was deleted and the file is Tests 63 passed (63).
CodeRabbit 2026-11-05 review of Zoo-Code-Org#1919 (thread DOSK-bwM6z6OCN, Trivial): both it.each cases rejected both writes at once, so the case name only described the await order and the two cases proved the same thing. The fixture now parks each update and rejects only the named one, so A-rejects-first and B-rejects-first end on different cache values, and the claim that both writes were issued is stated as expect(pending.map((p) => p.value)).toEqual([a, b]).
Ported byte for byte from vps2-f2c 5163cd3: this branch copy matched that commit parent copy byte for byte, so the whole file was taken from the child commit and the later merge of vps2-f2a into vps2-f2c should dedupe it without a conflict. Gates: eslint --max-warnings=0 clean, prettier --check clean.
Control: ContextProxy.updateGlobalState mutated so a rejected write restores the value that write itself saw before it started, ignoring the stateWriteOwner map. Whole spec Tests 1 failed | 4 passed (5) with AssertionError: expected a to be X. Run alone, A rejects first is Tests 1 failed | 4 skipped (5) and B rejects first is Tests 1 passed | 4 skipped (5), so the cases differ in outcome and the assertion bites. ContextProxy.ts was restored byte for byte (sha256/16 12641d683ea62846) and the spec is Tests 5 passed (5).
…on queue
CodeRabbit 2026-11-05 review of Zoo-Code-Org#1919 (thread DOSK-bwM6z6OCS, Major): deleteProviderProfile read and rewrote the shared profile stores without holding enqueueProviderProfileMutation, so an activation could interleave with it - and either mutation would then compensate state the other had already moved. The deletion snapshots every store it rewrites and compensates them as a group, so it belongs in the same queue that already serialises activation, mode switch, save and rename. Nothing in the deletion body or the re-pin helper enqueues again, so holding the queue here cannot self-deadlock.
Ported byte for byte from vps2-f2c 5cbdcf1 (the shape originates in 156e7f5 and was refined in b0cb66e): the public method becomes a queue wrapper around a private deleteProviderProfileUnlocked. The matching test (lets an activation that starts mid-deletion run after the deletion settles) was ported with it, byte for byte.
Control: with the wrapper removed and the ported test kept, the test is Tests 1 failed | 494 skipped (495) - AssertionError: expected keeper-profile to be other-profile. With the wrapper: Tests 1 passed | 494 skipped (495). Whole file: Tests 495 passed (495) against a pre-port baseline of Tests 494 passed (494).
Gates: tsc -p tsconfig.json --noEmit exit 0; eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored exit 0 on both files; prettier --check clean; src/eslint-suppressions.json untouched.
…d re-pin loop
CodeRabbit 2026-11-05 review of Zoo-Code-Org#1919 (thread DOSK-bwM6z6OCb, Major): the re-pin helper rebuilt each sibling task API handler and wrote its sticky profile name inside the first Promise.allSettled loop. A rebuilt handler is the one part of a re-pin that no compensation can undo, so when a later sibling failed and the loop was rolled back, the sibling that had already landed kept the survivor settings on a conversation whose pin went back to the profile the deletion failed to remove.
The snapshots now capture what the sticky write moves (taskAtSnapshot, previousTaskApiConfigName, previousTaskHistoryItem) plus the eligibility flag read before any write (taskWasUnderDeletedProfile). The settled loop now only does the strict sticky write, the rollback puts the task name and history entry back, and the rebuild runs once after the loop for exactly the tasks that were under the deleted profile. Each sibling still posts twice, deliberately: the post after the strict write keeps buffer and sticky name in step for that view, and the post after the rebuild is what makes the rebuilt handler visible to it.
Ported byte for byte from vps2-f2c 5cbdcf1, together with its test (does not rebuild the healthy sibling task handler when another sibling re-pin fails), byte for byte.
Control: with the production hunks reverted and the ported test kept, the file is Tests 1 failed | 495 passed (496) and the only failure is that test. With the hunks applied: Tests 496 passed (496), against a pre-port baseline of Tests 495 passed (495).
Gates: tsc -p tsconfig.json --noEmit exit 0; eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored exit 0 on both files; prettier --check clean; suppressions untouched.
…rite before the rebuild
CodeRabbit 2026-11-05 review of Zoo-Code-Org#1919 (ClineProvider.ts around the compensation catch): two rows cross in this method. First, the compensation restored the manager record, the profile list, the shared selection, the shared settings and the other views pins, but not the deleting view own pin and overlay, so a deletion the caller was told had failed left that view switched to the survivor in memory and on disk - and the spec documented the survivor as the expected outcome instead of promising the deleted profile. Second, the acting task strict sticky write ran after the API handler rebuild, which cannot be rolled back, so a failure of that write left a rebuilt handler naming a profile whose durable pin had gone. The catch now restores this view own pin, overlay and durable entry; the sticky write runs before the rebuild.
Ported byte for byte from vps2-f2c 5cbdcf1, together with the crossover test (restores the acting view own pin and overlay when its own strict sticky write fails) and the four assertion/comment hunks in the rollback test; the fixture gained its own log array (the three-line hunk in the concurrent-upsert test) so its ordering assertions read a log that belongs to that test. After this commit src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts is byte-identical to the vps2-f2c copy at 5163cd3 (git diff 5163cd3 -- that file is empty), so the later merge dedupes it.
Controls, each with the production hunks reverted and the ported spec kept: the crossover test is Tests 1 failed | 496 skipped (497) - AssertionError: expected vi.fn() to not be called at all, but actually been called 1 times (the rebuild that cannot be undone runs before the failing write). The rollback test (restores the profile list, shared selection, and view pin when a later write fails after the list write) is Tests 1 failed | 496 skipped (497) - AssertionError: expected keeper-profile to be doomed-profile, which is exactly the behaviour the reviewer asked to be forbidden. With the hunks applied both are green and the file is Tests 497 passed (497) against a pre-port baseline of Tests 494 passed (494).
Gates: tsc -p tsconfig.json --noEmit exit 0; eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored exit 0 on both files; prettier --check clean; suppressions untouched.
… refreshed state
Review thread 4476213612 (raised on Zoo-Code-Org#1921 against the shared parent): the per-sibling await instance.postStateToWebview() inside resetState had no guard, so one sibling whose webview had already gone away made resetState reject and skipped the profile, custom-mode and task-stack resets for every view. Its neighbour in the same loop already logs and continues when the durable clear rejects, and that clear is retried by the next mutation; the refresh post is state delivery, not part of the reset contract.
Landed on vps2-f2a because the defective line lives on this branch - vps2-f2a is the parent of vps2-f2c, and a parent that merges while still carrying a defect its child already fixed teaches the next reader that main had that bug for two PRs.
Test: keeps resetting after a sibling webview refuses the refreshed state, on the same fixture as clears the view-local overlay of every live webview on reset.
Control: test without the guard, Tests 1 failed | 497 skipped (498) - AssertionError: promise rejected Error: webview is gone instead of resolving. With the guard, Tests 1 passed | 497 skipped (498). Whole file Tests 498 passed (498) against 497 before this commit. The same red/green pair was measured on vps2-f2c 5163cd3 before the landing branch was chosen.
Gates: tsc -p tsconfig.json --noEmit exit 0; eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored exit 0 on both files; prettier clean (the test was reformatted by prettier --write before commit); suppressions untouched.
…he profile
The rename handler has three places where a compensation gives up. Two of them
tell the user, through the rename_api_config warning, that the rename did not
land cleanly and that both names may still be stored. The third - the activation
that runs after the rename has committed, whose own rollback also fails - only
wrote a log line, so an inconsistent store was visible to nobody but the log.
Show the same warning there, reusing the existing common:errors.rename_api_config
key across the locale bundles instead of inventing a string for one catch.
Review row DOSK-bwM6z6Vop (Zoo-Code-Org#1919). Control with the warning line removed: the
new test reddens with "expected \"vi.fn()\" to be called with arguments: [
StringContaining \"rename\" ]" and passes with it. webviewMessageHandler.spec.ts
goes from 185 to 186 passing tests. tsc, eslint --max-warnings=0 on both files
and prettier are clean, and src/eslint-suppressions.json is unchanged.

2704-2717: Add a test where both re-point calls reject in the forward-failure branch.
An earlier review thread on this branch is still open. In that branch, the forward repointViewLocalStateAfterProfileRename(oldName, newName, ...) rejects. The reverse re-point then also rejects, so removeOwnRenameRecord() never runs. newName stays stored with the same id as oldName. The handler shows the warning and rethrows the original error.
Existing tests do not cover this state:
"rolls the new profile back when the re-point fails" rejects only the forward call.
"logs a failed rename compensation" rejects the reverse call only in the delete-failure branch.
Add a case where both calls reject. It must assert that deleteConfig("new-profile") is not called, that showWarningMessage is called, and that the log contains "Rename compensation failed after re-point rejection". Automatic repair remains deferred, as agreed in the earlier thread.

…deletion races a sibling write
deleteProviderProfile decides what the shared provider-settings store owes the
selection once the record is gone, but every guard in that decision keys off
something re-pointing at the survivor. Every view in the host shares one
ContextProxy, so a sibling can move the shared selection onto a survivor and
carry the name alone; when that write lands after the deletion re-reads the
selection, no live pin, no persisted pin and not this view's own pin name the
deleted profile, so all the guards stay closed and the store goes on carrying
the deleted profile's settings under the survivor's name. A view with no
overlay of its own serves that store, so it reports the survivor's name with
the deleted profile's credentials.
Repair it from the invariant instead of from a guess about ordering: when the
selection names a surviving profile, this deletion wrote no shared settings, and
the store still equals the deleted profile's stored record, read the selected
profile's settings, pin into their overlays any sibling (or this view) that
would otherwise inherit them, and replace the store. A sibling write that did
carry settings has already repaired the pairing, and the record comparison
leaves that newer value alone.
Test: a sidebar deletion whose mid-deletion sibling write moves the shared
selection onto the survivor and carries nothing else. Without the fix the store
ends openrouter/doomed-key under keeper-profile and the file reports
1 failed | 498 passed (499); with it, 499 passed. Reverting only the production
hunks reddens exactly that test (1 failed | 498 passed). Whole-suite run after
the change: 46 failed | 12779 passed | 37 skipped (12862), every failure in the
known dist_assets, rules-symlink and poe classes - one fewer failing test than
the pre-change baseline run of this branch, which also carried a flaking
Task.spec.ts case.
Whether a shipped message reaches this interleaving today is unmeasured; the
invariant is pinned either way.
openClineInNewTab already accepts that several tab panels are open at once - the
onDidChangeViewState handler re-points the tracker at whichever panel the user
activates and says so in its own comment - but the panel's onDidDispose only
cleared the tracker, and only while it still named the panel being disposed.
Once the tracked panel closed with another panel still open nothing named the
survivor: focusInput takes the tab branch only while tabPanel is set, getPanel
falls back to the sidebar, and the next ordinary "Open in editor" built a third
panel beside the one the user could still see instead of revealing it.
The shipped ordering made this worse than it looks. The panel's own provider
disposes first: its view-dispose handler is registered inside resolveWebviewView
(ClineProvider.ts:1907-1931), before the one in openClineInNewTab, so by the time
this callback runs the tracker is already empty and the instance unregistered.
Choosing a successor only while tabPanel === newPanel therefore skipped exactly
the state the shipped wiring produces, which is why the guard now reads "no live
panel is tracked, or the tracked one is this panel".
The successor is chosen deliberately. The pool is the live tab-mode provider
instances rather than a panel list: closing a panel disposes its provider, and
disposal unregisters the instance synchronously at its start
(ClineProvider.ts:1653-1659), so a panel that is gone - or one whose provider
never resolved, which is what a failed creation leaves behind - cannot be picked.
Pointing the tracker at a panel nobody owns would be worse than the defect being
fixed: focusInput would take the tab branch, find no instance and post nothing
while a usable sidebar sat right there. Preference order is the active panel (the
one being looked at, the visibility handler's own reasoning), then a visible one,
then any live panel, because a panel in a collapsed group is still a tab the user
can click back to. No candidate means no tab surface is left: the tracker stays
clear and the sidebar resumes as the surface.
Tests: six cases built from two live tab panels opened through the shipped
creation path (the second one forced, which is how two live panels arise today)
and re-pointed at the first by the real visibility handler. Without the production
change the file reports 5 failed | 64 passed (69): the three preference tiers, the
open-in-editor case - which shows a third createWebviewPanel call, length 2 became
3 - and the branch where the tracker still names the panel. With it, 69 passed.
Reverting only the production hunks reddens exactly those five. The sixth case
pins the state where the disposed panel was the last live tab: nothing is left in
the tab surface, the ref stays clear and focusInput reaches the sidebar; it passes
unchanged before and after, so the picker cannot break it by pointing the tab ref
at the panel that was just disposed.
Gates: tsc --noEmit 0 errors; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean on both files;
prettier --check clean; activate specs 136 passed, and the four other specs that
import registerCommands (test-utils/provider, extension, ClineProviderFactory,
ClineProvider) 527 passed. Full suite: 46 failed | 12785 passed | 37 skipped
(12868) in 104.73s - six tests added, the same 46 failures as the previous run of
this branch (40 in __tests__/dist_assets.spec.ts with no built dist/, 5 in
services/rules/__tests__/rules.spec.ts on Windows symlinks, 1 in
api/providers/__tests__/poe.spec.ts). Task.spec.ts flakes between runs of the same
tree: an earlier run of this branch counted one extra Task.spec.ts failure that
did not recur here, so the suite delta in either direction is not a repair.

Commit the matching baseline snapshot. Keep the existing unit routing tests.
- Security Boundaries:
Bind each stable view-state ID to the owning extension-host webview, or replace
renderer-chosen IDs with a host-minted capability. Reject IDs that are not
issued or bound to the current provider before re-keying or loading persisted
state. Preserve only a controlled reload or re-adoption path. Add a regression
test that disposes the original provider, submits its known ID through
`webviewDidLaunch` on another provider, and verifies that the disposed view's
profile settings and credentials are not loaded or posted.
- Persistence Integrity:
Snapshot each affected task before deletion, including its API handler
configuration, `taskApiConfigName`, and history item. If any later deletion step
fails, await restoration of the acting task and every affected sibling task,
including the handler/configuration, sticky name, and history. Collect
restoration failures and throw a dedicated inconsistent-state error when task or
history restoration does not complete.
- Lifecycle Resource Cleanup:
Make provider construction exception-safe. Wrap construction in a factory that
returns the partially initialized provider and performs rollback, or add
constructor rollback. Remove the failed provider from `activeInstances` and
dispose every resource initialized before the failure, including
`WorkspaceTracker`, timers, listeners, tasks, managers, and stores. Keep panel
cleanup independent and rethrow the original constructor error.

For persisted settings, verify the complete schema/storage/runtime/webview round trip, shared default semantics, and focused true plus false/unset tests.
Require regression coverage at the lowest valid harness with behavior-focused assertions, including relevant negative, error, false/unset, and boundary cases.
Reserve end-to-end coverage for behavior that requires the real VS Code host, workspace APIs, extension activation, webview messaging, file watchers, or a full workflow.
Source excerpt: **Patch Gate (`target: 70%`)**: New or modified lines in PRs touching `webview-ui/src/` must meet minimum test coverage, ensuring state changes and new UI logic stay tested over time.
No action needed: isTaskInHistory is declared and implemented.
The API contract declares isTaskInHistory(taskId: string): Promise<boolean> in packages/types/src/api.ts. The extension implements it in src/extension/api.ts. The existing restart-persistence assertions already call it on the same api object. The new waitFor call returns the same Promise<boolean> type as the hasTaskUiMessageText wait already used in the create phase, so the call should type-check and the create phase should not fail on this line.

53-85: Stability & Availability
No external caller overwrites the persisted webview state.
The only write through the VSCodeAPIWrapper state API in webview-ui/src is the spread-preserving setState in getViewStateId(). The other setState matches are React state updaters and do not touch persisted webview state. The viewStateId key therefore has no inspected writer that can drop it.

2702-2717: Add a test where the forward re-point and the reverse re-point both reject.
The coverage gap from the earlier review is still present. The test "rolls the new profile back when the re-point fails" rejects only the first repointViewLocalStateAfterProfileRename call. The test "logs a failed rename compensation" rejects the reverse re-point only in the delete-failure branch. No test runs this branch with both calls rejecting. That case skips removeOwnRenameRecord(), shows the warning, and logs Rename compensation failed after re-point rejection. Add a test that checks the warning, the log line, and that deleteConfig("new-profile") is not called.

No real updateSettings producer sends a provider-only key.
The handler can skip an injected provider-only key and report success, but the inspected SettingsView, AutoApproveDropdown, and other producers send global settings only. The cited provider fields are handled through API-configuration updates, and the current global key is diffFuzzyThreshold, not diffEnabled or fuzzyMatchThreshold.

…ailure paths
deleteProviderProfile posted the refreshed state as the last statement inside its
compensated try. postStateToWebview awaits getStateToPostToWebview, which reads custom
modes, task history and auth state, so it can reject after every forward write landed.
That rejection entered the catch and restored the record, the list entry, the selection
and the shared settings while the sibling re-pins and the sticky re-points had already
moved to the survivor: a profile that exists again with conversations still running the
replacement profile, and a caller told the deletion failed. The refresh now runs after
the catch in its own log-only try/catch - the placement the activation block below it
already documents for its own side effects. Stale webview state is repaired by the next
post, a resurrected record is not.
The two rollback cases that used this post as their failure trigger now fail on a step
that sits inside the compensated group whichever way the post is placed - the re-pinned
sibling's own state post - so they keep measuring the rollback instead of the position
of the refresh. The new case pins that a post which rejects after the deletion committed
leaves the record deleted, logs, and keeps the siblings on the survivor.
disposeFailedTabCreation cleared the tracked tab ref to undefined even while another tab
panel was still live, while the disposal path hands the ref to a survivor. Both paths now
use one rule and one pool - live tab-mode provider instances - so a panel that outlives
a failed creation stays reachable to focusInput and to the next ordinary "Open in
editor". It is the same defect the survivor work fixed on the disposal path, seen from
the failed-creation path, which is why there is still only one rule.
Test hygiene: vi.clearAllMocks drops call history but keeps implementations, so the
instance-registry stubs the survivor fixtures install leaked into later tests and made
their results depend on execution order; both describes now reset them in an afterEach
hook, which also runs when a test fails part way through. The sticky-profile case that
left its sibling provider undisposed now runs its deletion in a try/finally that
disposes it, so a live instance no longer stays in ClineProvider static registry.
Controls: with the state post left inside the compensated try, the new provider-profile
case is the only failure (1 of 500) and both retargeted rollback cases pass; with the
survivor hand-back removed from the cleanup path, the new failed-creation case is the
only failure (1 of 70). Restored, both files are green (500 and 70).
Gates: tsc clean, eslint clean with src/eslint-suppressions.json unchanged, prettier
no-op. Full suite 46 failed | 12787 passed | 37 skipped - the same environmental classes

Zoo-Code-Org/Zoo-Code#1992([Tracking] vps2 chain: rules, port sources, chain-level rows) is the upstream tracking issue for this chain and the home of this unit's split plan, unit boundaries, acceptance criteria and review dispositions. It is written asRelated:rather thanCloses:on purpose: merging one unit must not close the acceptance record that #1921 and the tail units still need. There is no other upstream issue for this unit, and no upstream number is invented here.Description
Content source of record:
kind: commit, base8554307ec→ headbff2a5ca8(PR 1555), replayed onto the currentmaintip so the branch carries nothingmainalready has.Budget (own delta, not the stacked view): 173 a+d standalone, 12 changed executable lines.
One gate scope: the state semantics of a profile mutation must hold for every live view, not only the view that performed it, and a mode rollback must not be able to persist a profile that no longer exists.
apiConfigurationof every other liveClineProviderpinned to that profile (refreshViewLocalStateForUpdatedProfile) and re-posts each affected view's state, so no view keeps serving — or running on — settings it buffered before the mutation.rePinViewLocalStateForDeletedProfile), replaces their configuration with the surviving profile's, and persists the replacement through the serialized write queue so their durableviewStatesentries survive a reload.deleteProviderProfilenow writes only the profile list back instead of replaying a full settings snapshot, so it cannot clobber unrelated keys (notablyviewStates) that concurrent views mutate directly. Also in this head (
1b9d6d73f), from review:deleteProviderProfileperforms two durable writes — the settings-store commit and the profile-list write. If the list write (or a later selection update) fails, the stored list still names a profile whose settings are gone and no later selection or load can recover them. The settings are now captured before the commit and written back throughsaveConfigwhen a later step fails, so the durable metadata and the store agree again (the deletion simply did not happen); the original error is rethrown and a failed compensation is logged with the residual risk stated.Reviewer focus: the compensation is deliberately a settings restore, not a list rollback — the list write is the step that failed, so the list keeps naming the profile and the store is made to agree with it. Restoring the original
idmatters: a new id would orphan the task history entries that reference the profile.Test Procedure

Every red→green control named below is pinned to this tree.Owed refresh (deferred deliberately, not missed). The host-minted capability the Security Boundaries row asks for is #2226's claim token (claimTokeninpackages/types/src/global-settings.ts,viewStateClaiminpackages/types/src/vscode-extension-host.ts,pendingViewStateClaims/postViewStateClaimToWebviewinsrc/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts), so the adoption/binding step is scheduled on this unit after #2226 lands instead of being re-invented here.Hook note.
.husky/pre-pushexists on the branch, but this worktree's installed hook set (.husky/_, which is gitignored and produced bypnpm installrather than by the branch) had apre-commitwrapper and nopre-pushwrapper, sogit pushdid not executepnpm run check-types; nothing was skipped with--no-verify. The hook's own command was run directly for this head and its result is quoted above, and the missing wrapper has now been installed in the worktree for subsequent pushes.Pre-Submission Checklist
No documentation change: the user-facing flow (activate / edit / delete a provider profile) is unchanged; only the state each live view ends up with, and the durability ordering inside deletion, changed.

All 31 review threads are resolved. The nine latest AT-HEAD walkthrough rows were re-verified against this head:
viewIdadoption (ClineProvider.tsload/rekey) - addressed:rekeyPersistedViewStateEntrytreats temporary ids as session counters; a stable entry wins and the temporary entry is dropped, so an unrelated earlier view's entry is not adopted as a stable rekey.undoHistoryWriteassigned without a landed history write - addressed: the closure is a no-op when no history item existed before the switch, and the comment matches the code.deleteApiConfiguration->activateProviderProfilepath (Major) - fixed at 8a43f2b: the deletion now completes the activation-side effects when the deleted profile was the active one (globally or for this view): the manager's own current-profile record and the current mode's profile mapping follow the survivor, the current task's API handler is rebuilt from the survivor's settings, the current task's sticky profile is refreshed, andProviderProfileChangedis emitted. Placement mirrorsactivateProviderProfileUnlocked: after the try/catch, because the deletion has committed. Proofs in the thread reply.openInNewTabcalls (Major) - addressed: the handler unconditionally creates a new panel viaopenClineInNewTab; the tracked-panel reveal is not on the settled path.*InTabvariants, which target the tracked tab instance and are meaningless from the palette, are hidden withwhen: false; the sidebar variants are registered once at activation and target the activation-wired provider directly (no per-view registration, no visible-instance heuristic), which is the pre-unit palette behavior.Verification numbers (head 8a43f2b)
Post-commit activation error distinction (head 91dfd64)
errors.delete_api_config, misreporting a successful deletion. Fixed: the committed state is posted first, then a distinctProfileDeletionActivationError(own moduleprofileDeletionError.ts, re-exported by the provider) is thrown; the handler warns with the activation cause instead of the generic delete error.CI re-trigger: heads e704ab4 and 67a9649 are empty commits over 91dfd64 (no content change) to re-run flaked lanes; the visual lane passed at e704ab4, and 67a9649 re-runs the mock-e2e 30s-timeout flake ('persists completed task across a fresh extension host' - the identical tree passed e2e-mock at 91dfd64). Regression tests: non-string, oversized, claimed-by-another-view. Negative controls: disabling the ownership check reddens exactly the claim test; widening the length bound reddens exactly the oversized test; restores byte-exact (hash match)._saveViewLocalStateFromMutationpersists the non-secret subset before updating the buffer; the re-key is a single queued write (no delete-then-write window; authorship clears only after the write lands); the mutation hook keeps the buffer synced across setValue/setValues and profile upsert/activation/deletion.rePinViewLocalStateForDeletedProfilere-pins other live views still buffered on a deleted profile (buffer + durable entry), and deletion snapshots/compensates every store it rewrites. The overlay is a complete snapshot: used in place, with onlyapiProviderfalling back to shared state.--max-warnings=0clean, tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines, prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.Follow-up: overlay read from the view buffer (required-lane fix)
The previous round's overlay-completeness change read the overlay from the merged state values, which also carry the raw
apiConfigurationstate key. That key is a partial patch written by shared-store paths, not a view snapshot: with no overlay present and the raw key partial,getState()served only the partial object and dropped the shared provider settings the previous merge produced (the parallel-mode activation tests caught exactly this - the activated profile's model id vanished; required lane red on the units carrying that spec). The overlay is now read from the view buffer itself, where a present value is by contract a complete profile and an absent one means the shared store serves the settings.Proofs: ClineProvider.parallelMode.spec green where present (the six synchronization tests that regressed), ClineProvider.spec green including the overlay-completeness tests, sticky-mode and webviewMessageHandler green; negative control: reverting the overlay to a shallow merge over the shared settings still reddens exactly the leak test; restores byte-exact (hash match); eslint
--max-warnings=0clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.Follow-up: active task handlers rebuilt on non-activating saves (head 7b107d3)
A review round on the view-identity unit found that the non-activating-save refresh updated pinned views' buffers but not their active tasks' API handlers, and the posted state prefers the task's own
apiConfiguration: a conversation running in a view pinned to the saved profile kept sending the old token (e.g. after the Zoo Gateway callback rotated it) even though the view's buffer had caught up. The refresh now rebuilds the affected tasks' handlers in the pinned views, and the non-activating branch rebuilds this view's own handler when it holds the pin.Proofs: ClineProvider.spec green (the pinned-sibling refresh test now asserts the active task's handler is rebuilt with the saved settings, not just the private buffer); negative control: dropping the rebuild from the refresh reddens exactly that assertion, restores byte-exact (hash match); parallelMode/sticky-mode/webviewMessageHandler green; eslint

The review round on the api-wiring unit named four test-quality issues; the ones present in this unit are fixed here: the
viewStatesdescribe block moved out of thealwaysDenyUnapprovedCommandsblock (test names carried the wrong subject), the prune test'stoBeDefined()survival checks replaced with exact-shapetoEqualassertions (they pass even if pruning strips fields), the stale-temporary-entry test's fixed 10 ms wait replaced with awaiting the load itself (the negative assertion could pass vacuously on a slow load), and the readiness-cancel test's fake timers restored in afinallyblock (a failed assertion left fake timers active and hung a later real-timer test).Proofs: global-settings 9/9 where present, ClineProvider.spec green, sticky-mode green where present, api-task-control green where present; negative controls: pruning that strips
updatedAtreddens exactly the prune test, aloadViewStatethat adopts the unowned temporary-id entry reddens exactly the stale-entry test, restores byte-exact (hash match); eslint--max-warnings=0clean (src and types); prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED.Follow-up: review-round fixes from the series (head acfd9ae)
A review round on the mode-profile-writes unit found that the profile-deletion re-pin updated each sibling view's buffer but not its running task: the posted state prefers the task's own
apiConfiguration, so a conversation in a view pinned to the deleted profile kept sending the deleted profile's settings. The re-pin now rebuilds the sibling's API handler with the replacement's settings and re-points the task's sticky profile name, mirroring the activation path.Proofs: ClineProvider.spec and sticky-mode green; eslint
--max-warnings=0clean; tsc clean except the two known local telemetry-dist noise lines; prettier merge-ref gate ALL-MATCHED. The rebuild's negative control (dropping it reddens exactly the sibling re-pin test, byte-exact restore) runs in the units that own that test.Updated this round (port of the two upstream PR 1921 review fixes)
acfd9ae -> 54b3890
Ported the two fixes landed on the sibling unit (fork PR 43 / upstream PR 1921 at 2e932e8). This unit carries the same shared code (provider-profile mutation queue + sibling re-pin), so the same review findings apply to this branch:
providerProfileMutationQueueis now shared across instances (static). The per-instance queue let a second view commit between this view's shared write and its snapshot compensation, and the compensation restored a stale copy over the newer write; one queue now serializes every view's profile mutations against each other.Tests: this unit has no
ClineProvider.parallelMode.spec.ts(parallel-mode lineage), so both regression tests land inClineProvider.spec.tsnext to the existing re-pin rollback tests - cross-instance serialization + sibling-task rollback - adapted to this unit's manager-double and saveViewState pin conventions.Proofs:
ClineProvider.spec321/321 (2 new tests); sticky-mode + sticky-profile + webviewMessageHandler 143/143; negative controls: per-instance queue shadow reddens exactly the serialization test, task updates moved back into the per-sibling loop redden exactly the sibling-task test, both restores byte-exact (hash match 7c41a7db88ee1710); eslint --max-warnings=0 clean, suppression counts unchanged; tsc = 2 known donor telemetry-dist noise lines only (real 0); prettier touched files clean and the full merge-ref tree gate ALL-MATCHED @617037b1c (base 54b3890).Updated this round (CodeRabbit follow-up, head 28e969c)
taskApiConfigName === saved profile; pinned-view overlays still refresh. Regression tests cover both sites (negative control: removing either guard reddens exactly its test).Updated this round (CodeRabbit follow-up 2, head 9afc9d8)
taskApiConfigName === deleted profile(the view-buffer re-pin stays unconditional), so a pinned view whose task follows another sticky profile keeps its conversation's settings and persisted profile name. Regression test included (negative control: removing the guard reddens exactly that test).Stryker suppression comments removed
Per the AGENTS.md policy (never add Stryker directives; remove them when a file is touched), all

resetState()now broadcasts across live providers (broadcastResetToAllInstances, the same slice this series ships in the cross-instance-reset units): the shared durableviewStatesslot is cleared once through the persisted write queue, every live view's in-memory buffer (which can hold a deleted profile's settings, API keys included) is dropped, and each sibling view is reposted. Regression test added; dropping the broadcast reddens exactly that test.saveApiConfiguration/renameApiConfiguration/getListApiConfigurationhandlers, launch-timelistApiConfigMetasync).Row-9 update (head 0dae49a)
deleteProviderProfilenow re-points persisted pins of disposed views onto the surviving profile, records the write in the landed-flags set, and rolls the exact pre-deletion map back through the serialized queue on failure (CR Persistence Integrity).Verification: new tests are focused negative controls (reverting each guard reddens exactly the matching test); ClineProvider.spec, webviewMessageHandler.spec spot-checks, api specs, spec-inclusive tsc --noEmit, eslint --max-warnings=0 (suppression counts unchanged) and prettier all green on this head.
Upstream refresh (head 0dae49a)
Merged the current
upstream/main(merge commit; the row-9 fix commit is unchanged and is the first parent) to clear the review gate's mergeability hold. Upstream refactoredupsertProviderProfileinto a newpersistProviderProfilemethod and added arunToCompletionqueue option; this unit's transactional body was ported into the new method unchanged and upstream'sPromise.allSettledactivation fix was adopted in it. One deliberate adaptation: upstream optsupsertProviderProfileintorunToCompletion; this unit does not, because its contract is the landed-write compensation - the mutation timeout must abort the run so the compensation rolls the record and the stores back, which is what the cancellation tests pin. ClineProvider.spec, webviewMessageHandler.spec, tsc --noEmit, eslint (suppression counts unchanged) and prettier re-verified green at this head. The first refreshed head's windows unit-test lane caught that upstream's newupdateProfileModeltests inClineProvider.apiHandlerRebuild.spec.tsmock the settings manager with a staticgetProfile, which starves the post-save read-back; the mock now repointsgetProfileat whatsaveConfigwrote (the real manager's behavior), and the file's 38 tests pass locally alongside the rest of the verification set. Three of upstream's new tests are adapted to this unit's abort-and-compensate upsert semantics (documented in comments): the timed-out upsert cancels and rolls back instead of running to completion, and the restore-path tests account for the compensation's record rollback and the serialized write order.Round 2 (head 4d002c4, then merged to 1c1ac88) — CodeRabbit 00:44:15Z coverage rows

A second view, sharing the acting view's ContextProxy the way production builds the tab view (activate/registerCommands.ts:449; documented atsrc/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:3634-3636), activatesother-survivorinside the interceptedmanager.deleteConfig; after the deletion both views'getProviderSettings().openRouterModelIdmust readopenai/gpt-4o. This also measures green againstc2206c5a3: the shared settings are not stale at that interception point today. Controls: dropping the activation's write of the survivor's settings (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:4100) →1 failed | 25 passed; making the deletion push its own entry-time survivor's settings over the shared store even though nothing re-points →1 failed | 25 passed; restored byte-identical (ClineProvider.tssha256 prefixcb8f121752f6ce5f).Assertion shapes are stated in the threads as the repo standard for both classes — storage-failure assertions (
mockRejectedValue(new Error("Storage failed"))→ catch →not.toBeInstanceOf(ProviderSettingsNotFoundError)→toMatchObject({ message: expect.stringContaining("<method prefix>:") }), plusexpect(mockSecrets.store).not.toHaveBeenCalled()on write paths) and cross-view assertions made against a shared ContextProxy — so #1550 and #1919 converge instead of drifting.Verification at this head: junction pre-flight first (every

git merge upstream/main(e943530 — #2223 time/date-format settings on top of #2294 and #1207) conflicted in three files; each is resolved toward main's content with our behaviour kept beside it:src/core/config/ContextProxy.ts: main'supdateGlobalStateowns the rejected-write contract now (per-key write owner, cache corrected by reading the Memento back), so our per-key generation/confirmed-valuestateWritesmap is removed rather than run in parallel with it.ContextProxy.spec's rejection test gained the Memento content its fixture was missing (mockGlobalState.getnow models what storage holds), because the correction reads from the Memento and not from our cache; the assertion itself is unchanged and still reddens (4 failed | 62 passed) when the read-back line is removed.src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts: kept our per-view layer and the shared-write compensation insetValues, folded main'swithoutInvalidDisplaySettingsgate in ahead of our mode gate (different key classes, both keep their logs), and took main's three new fields (timeFormat, dateFormat, showRelativeTimes) intogetStateToPostToWebviewread frommergedStateValuesrather thanstateValues, so the per-view overlay still applies to them.src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts: main'sisInvalidDisplayValueguard first, then our provider-profile and host-owned boundary guards; all three log and drop the key, and none reorders the normalisation below them.Suppression effect of the merge: two counts decreased (
api/providers/__tests__/lm-studio-timeout.spec.ts3 → 0,api/providers/qwen-code.ts1 → 0), none increased. Post-merge verification at 1c1ac88:tsc --noEmit0 errors; eslint exit 0 on all eight touched files; prettier reports every touched file unchanged;ContextProxy.spec.ts66,ProviderSettingsManager.spec.ts65,ClineProvider.sticky-profile.spec.ts26,webviewMessageHandler.spec.ts185,ClineProvider.apiHandlerRebuild.spec.ts39,ClineProvider.lockApiConfig.spec.ts2,ClineProvider.flicker-free-cancel.spec.ts13,extension/__tests__/api-configuration.spec.ts9, and the webview-ui settings/timestamp lane (LanguageSettings.timeFormat,SettingsView,SettingsView.change-detection,ChatRow.timestamp,MessageTimestamp) 133 passed.Round 6 (gate-threads)
Two things landed here since
0579f8d04.2b7a41d58— the shared store stays paired with the selection when a deletion races a sibling write. This started as a measurement, not a guess:deleteProviderProfiledecides what the shared provider-settings store owes the selection once the record is gone, but every guard in that decision keys off something re-pointing at the survivor. Every view in the host shares oneContextProxy(ContextProxy.getInstance, passed to the sidebar atextension.ts:241and to a tab provider atregisterCommands.ts:437/453), so a sibling can move the shared selection onto a survivor and carry the name alone; when that write lands after the deletion re-reads the selection, no live pin, no persisted pin and not the acting view's own pin name the deleted profile, so all the guards stay closed and the store goes on carrying the deleted profile's settings under the survivor's name - which is what every view without an overlay of its own serves. Regression test plus controls: without the production hunks the file reports1 failed | 498 passed (499), the failure showingapiKey: "doomed-key"underkeeper-profile; with them,499 passed. Full suite after the change:46 failed | 12779 passed | 37 skipped (12862)against a pre-change baseline run of47 failed | 12777 passed (12861)- one test added, no new failure (the difference in failures is a flakingTask.spec.tscase that passed this time). No test on either branch had ever exercised this interleaving: the four deletion tests that write the selection inside an async callback are all single-provider, and the only mid-deletion second operation writes the selection through the same provider's queue, so it settles after the deletion.Thread state. Rows
DOSK-bwM6z6OCB,OCN,OCP,OCS,OCbandVopare answered with the commit that landed each fix on this branch and the control numbers from that landing, and resolved. RowOCX(thepostStateToWebviewinside the compensated write group) is answered and left open: the non-fatal post helper it describes has never existed on either branch (git log -Sfinds no commit carrying that string), so it has to be written, and which branch carries it is the lead's call. The new row4477073508onsrc/activate/registerCommands.ts(track every live tab panel; select a survivor when the tracked one closes) was verified against2b7a41d58and is valid -onDidChangeViewStateat 492-508 already assumes several tab panels stay live whileonDidDisposeat 511-520 only clears the reference - answered and left open pending its own commit on this branch.Round 6 addendum (gate-threads)
Row
4477073508is no longer open. It landed on this branch asbc729fcc9, its own commit: the successor for the tab ref is now chosen deliberately from the live tab-mode provider instances (preference: active, then visible, then any live panel), theonDidDisposeguard reads "no live panel is tracked, or the tracked one is this panel" because the provider's own view-dispose handler clears the ref first, and the last-live-panel case is pinned as its own test so the ref stays clear there rather than pointing at the panel that was just disposed. Controls and the tier measurements are on the thread; the row is resolved. That moved the parent head, so
vps2-f2c's merge of this branch was discarded and rebuilt frombc729fcc9rather than amended: new merge commite8b2ac051(parentsa691f24c9,bc729fcc9). Full suite on this branch afterbc729fcc9:46 failed | 12785 passed | 37 skipped (12868)- six tests added, same 46 pre-existing environmental failures.Task.spec.tsflakes between runs of the same tree, so a delta in that file either way is not a repair.Round 7 addendum (head 4719931)
This head folds the four open review rows on this branch into one commit:
postStateToWebviewmoved out of the compensated group indeleteProviderProfileUnlocked(log-only failure), so a state-refresh rejection after the deletion committed no longer resurrects the profile record while the sibling re-pins stay on the replacement. Two rollback cases were retargeted onto a failure point inside the group (the re-pinned sibling's own post) so they measure the rollback rather than the position of the refresh; the new case pins that a failed post leaves the deletion committed and logs it. Control: with the post still inside the group, 1 failed / 499 passed - only the new case.disposeFailedTabCreationnow hands the tracked tab ref topickTabPanelSurvivor()instead of clearing it, so a creation failure no longer strands live tab panels; same selector and same pool as the disposal path. Control: reverting that hunk reddens only the new failed-creation case, 1 failed / 69 passed.afterEachhooks resetClineProvider.getInstanceForView/getAllInstances, becausevi.clearAllMockskeeps implementations and survivor fixtures were leaking registry state into later tests.finally, so it stops leaving a live instance in the static registry.Gates on this head: tsc clean, eslint clean with
