feat(myaccount): add getUserProfile and updateUserProfile methods - #1731
Adds the My Account profile API (Early Access) to react-native-auth0 on iOS, Android, and web. Signed-in users can read and update their own profile. Every field in the response comes with a profilePolicy entry that says whether the user can edit it and why. An app can use it to build a profile screen for any user type without hardcoding which fields are editable for each connection type. This matches the Auth0.swift 3.3.0, Auth0.Android 4.3.0, and auth0-spa-js 2.30.0 releases.
Endpoints
GET /me/v1/profile (scope read:me:profile)
PATCH /me/v1/profile (scope update:me:profile)
Methods added (on MyAccountClient, available via auth0.myAccount and useAuth0().myAccount)
MyAccountError has a new optional validationErrors?: MyAccountValidationError[] property. On a 400, it lists each rejected field. It is filled in on all platforms and for every My Account method.
Behavior, aligned across platforms
profilePolicy keys are JSON Pointers (e.g. /given_name) and are kept as-is, not camelCased.
profilePolicy is undefined when the response doesn't include profile_policy. Auth0.Android returns an empty map in that case; the bridge normalizes it to undefined, as on iOS and web.
includeFields only applies together with a non-empty fields, as in Auth0.swift.
In updateUserProfile, fields left undefined are not sent, and empty strings are sent as-is, as in the native SDKs. Calling it with no fields sends an empty PATCH and returns the current profile.
A 403 (feature not enabled or missing scope) surfaces as a normal MyAccountError (UNAUTHORIZED); no new error code was added.
user_metadata is intentionally not included, consistent with the native and SPA SDKs.
Implementation
Core interface and types, the TurboModule spec (NativeA0Auth0.ts), and NativeBridge / NativeBridgeManager
NativeMyAccountClient → iOS (MyAccount.swift, A0Auth0.mm) and Android (MyAccount.kt, A0Auth0Module.kt)
iOS and Android now include validationErrors in the error passed back to JavaScript.
Dependencies
Auth0.swift 3.2.0 → 3.3.0 (SPM, A0Auth0.podspec)
@auth0/auth0-spa-js^2.29.0 → ^2.30.0
Auth0.Android was already on 4.3.0.
Usage
const{ myAccount }=useAuth0();constprofile=awaitmyAccount.getUserProfile({ accessToken });if(profile.profilePolicy?.['/given_name']?.access==='read_only'){// e.g. reason: 'managed_by_identity_provider'}// Only some fieldsawaitmyAccount.getUserProfile({
accessToken,fields: ['given_name','profile_policy'],});try{awaitmyAccount.updateUserProfile({ accessToken,givenName: 'Jane'});}catch(e){if(einstanceofMyAccountError){e.validationErrors?.forEach((v)=>console.log(v.pointer,v.detail));}}
README.md (platform support table) and EXAMPLES.md (new "Managing the User's Profile" section, plus a validationErrors note under Error Handling) are updated.

Invalid picture → 400 with validationErrors (pointer /picture)
Adds the My Account profile API (Early Access) on iOS, Android, and web:
- getUserProfile with fields/includeFields, returning per-field profilePolicy
- updateUserProfile for givenName, familyName, name, nickname, picture
- MyAccountError.validationErrors surfaced from 400 responses on all platforms
- Bumps Auth0.swift to 3.3.0 and @auth0/auth0-spa-js to ^2.30.0
Co-Authored-By: Claude <noreply@anthropic.com>
Added My Account profile retrieval and updates on Native and Web. Profile retrieval supports selecting or excluding fields and includes per-field editability information.
Updates support given name, family name, name, nickname, and picture. Empty updates are allowed; invalid or read-only fields reject the entire update.
My Account errors can include field-level validation details. Profile features are in Early Access and may require specific scopes.
Documentation
Added profile-management examples covering scopes, profile policies, field filtering, update behavior, errors, and platform availability.
The My Account API adds profile retrieval and update operations for web and native platforms. The changes define profile and validation-error types, connect platform clients to their profile APIs, serialize validation errors, and document the new operations.
Adds profile, policy, request, and validation-error types, plus profile methods in the client contract and native specification. MyAccountError exposes parsed validation errors. The docs describe profile operations, field policies, and related errors.
Web profile operations src/platforms/web/adapters/WebMyAccountClient.ts, src/platforms/web/adapters/__tests__/WebMyAccountClient.spec.ts, package.json
Maps web profile requests and responses, sends only defined update fields, and serializes API validation errors. Tests cover field selection, response mapping, update bodies, and API errors. The SPA SDK requirement changes to ^2.30.0.
Native client and bridge flow src/platforms/native/adapters/NativeMyAccountClient.ts, src/platforms/native/adapters/__tests__/NativeMyAccountClient.spec.ts, src/platforms/native/bridge/NativeBridge.ts, src/platforms/native/bridge/NativeBridgeManager.ts, src/platforms/native/bridge/__tests__/NativeBridgeManager.spec.ts
Adds profile methods to the native client and bridge. The client normalizes omitted values, and tests cover argument forwarding, returned values, and error handling.
Adds profile retrieval and update operations to the Android and iOS bridges. Both map profile results and include validation errors in My Account error details. The iOS Auth0.swift pins change to 3.3.0.
The profile-mapping test detects the identified mapping regressions, but its previously reported coverage concern remains unresolved. This is a bounded follow-up risk rather than a demonstrated blocker.

Use a literal expected policy in the profile mapping test.
profilePolicy: rawProfile.profile_policy uses the mapper input as the expected value. An in-place key rewrite in mapProfile would change both sides of toEqual, so the test would still pass. The expected policy literal matches the fixture values, so the test fails on that rewrite and still passes on the current mapper.

the assertion independently detects key rewriting by mapProfile.

Review comments at @android/src/main/java/com/auth0/react/MyAccount.kt:
- Around line 511-520: Document the Android behavior for `profilePolicy` in the
bridge logic around `MyAccountProfile.profilePolicy`: an empty server object and
an absent field both arrive as `emptyMap()`, so Android omits the JavaScript key
and cannot preserve the distinction. Do not emit the map unconditionally; that
would return `{}` for absent policies. Note that preserving this distinction
requires a presence signal from Auth0.Android.
Review comments at @src/core/models/MyAccountError.ts:
- Around line 172-174: Update the validationErrors assignment in the
MyAccountError constructor to filter out null and non-object entries before
exposing the array. Preserve valid object entries and ensure malformed remote
data cannot cause the documented validation-error loop to throw.

- Around line 1234-1236: Correct the documented `profilePolicy` presence
condition in the type comment and the corresponding EXAMPLES.md explanation:
with `includeFields` true (the default), it is undefined when `fields` omits
`profile_policy`; with `includeFields` false, it is undefined when `fields`
lists `profile_policy`.
