In a terminal, `setup` asks for the scope and, for each tool, whether to connect Simlock's MCP server too. Pass `--user` or `--project`, `--tool claude-code` or `--tool codex`, and `--mcp` or `--no-mcp` to answer for a script. See [`simlock setup`](/simlock/docs/reference/cli#simlock-setup) for the paths and the report.

## Use the CLI
## Or paste the rules

The skill and the pasted rules are alternatives, not a pair. Use the skill when your tool supports skills, and do not also paste the rules: the agent would read them twice. Paste the rules only for a tool without skills.

Run `simlock instructions` and paste its output into your project's `AGENTS.md` or `CLAUDE.md`. It prints the current rules for using Simlock: what every agent must do, then agent-device, iOS builds, the `simlock` CLI and MCP. Paste it again after you update Simlock, so your agents follow the rules your version has.

Or let `simlock setup --mcp` run it for you. It follows the scope: at user scope it runs `claude mcp add -s user simlock -- simlock mcp`, which writes `~/.claude.json`; with `--project` it runs `claude mcp add -s project simlock -- simlock mcp`, which writes `.mcp.json`.

## For agents

<Aside type="tip" title="For agents">
`setup` checks the machine itself, so there is no separate `simlock doctor` step.

```sh
npm i -g simlock
simlock setup --project --tool claude-code --mcp --json # or --user, --tool codex, --no-mcp
simlock lease --platform ios --detach # prints the lease
simlock release <lease-id>
Use a shell-safe placeholder for the lease ID.
<lease-id> is parsed as shell redirection syntax. Copying this command fails instead of releasing the lease. Use LEASE_ID and state that the user must replace it with the ID printed by simlock lease.
Update the `simlock release` example to use the shell-safe placeholder
`LEASE_ID` instead of angle brackets, and state that users must replace it with
the ID printed by `simlock lease`.
After applying the fix, consider running `coderabbit review --agent` for local
