Change Summary
-
- Adds optional contract-wide policy enforcement and tightening gate-resolution helpers.
- Updates enforcement strategy displays and ignored opt-out warnings.
- Adds enforcement initialization, rendering, and warning tests.
- Simplifies initialization state, status variable scope, and duplicated test setup.
AI Session Overall Score

How to check:
1. For each file above, confirm the listed guards are still reached on every path this
change adds or modifies. A guard on the direct path but skipped on a sibling path is
a live bug, not a style issue.
2. Where a file names a removed construct instead of a guard, search for that construct:
past fixes here deleted it rather than guarding it, so any surviving use is a lead.
3. Where an invariant is enforced at other entry points, check that this change does not
add one that skips it.
4. Verify before reporting. Trace attacker-controlled input to the sink, confirm the
guard is genuinely absent, and state a concrete exploit. Discard what you cannot
exploit.
5. Do not stop at these files. The fix history shows where risk concentrates, not the
only bugs that exist.
6. When the review is complete, post a comment on this pull request to acknowledge it.
State that you reviewed the change against the security context. If you found no
issues, say so. If you found issues, do not put exploit details in the comment.

can we reuse this value for both org and contract?

Done in 14fd517. Init now sets block_on_policy_violation when the organization or the contract enforces, and the separate field is gone. The status output reads the contract to name the source, so it names the contract when both enforce. Recorded as D-007, and R-005 is updated.

why is this now removed?

That block never blocked anything. It only logged the bypass warning and then returned nil in both branches. Blocking happens in the loop above, on each evaluation's gate, and that loop logs the same bypass warning when a gated violation is bypassed. Organization and contract enforcement now set every evaluation's gate when the policy is evaluated, so the loop covers them.

Add spec.policies.gate to workflow contracts to enforce every policy of a contract, including its policy groups. Enforcement now only tightens: the organization, the contract, a policy group attachment or a policy attachment can turn enforcement on, but gate: false no longer turns off enforcement set at a higher level. The attestation status output shows the enforcement source and the gate: false values that have no effect, and hides the advisory strategy. The control plane applies the contract enforcement to the run policy status when the attestation was crafted by a CLI without support for it. Implements R-001 to R-005 and part of R-006 of spec issue-3762. Warn at attestation init when a contract policy, policy group or the contract-wide setting sets gate: false while the organization or the contract enforces policies, since enforcement cannot be relaxed. The status output also lists the contract-wide opt-out. Add table tests for the enforcement rows of attestation status and workflow run describe, and check blocked and has-gates in the renderer under contract enforcement. Clarify in D-006 that the control plane marks only runs whose attestation does not record the enforced strategy. …rcement The attestation records one enforcement value, set at init when the organization or the contract enforces policies, so the renderer, push and control plane need no new field. The status output reads the contract to name the source. Also fix a nil dereference in the ignored opt-out check for contracts without policies, name the v1 contract-wide setting correctly, and reword the warning. The enforcement source and the ignored gate: false opt-outs are now methods of the crafting state, so attestation init and status share them without reaching into the status action. The rule that marks a policy status as enforced moves to the renderer policy status, next to DerivePolicyStatusSummary. Its only caller is attestation init, so the warning and its test move there from the status action. Assisted-by: Claude Code Signed-off-by: Miguel Martinez Trivino <miguel@chainloop.dev> Chainloop-Trace-Sessions: 44016fe6-1a31-4253-934f-ca70bc4b469d

Set the resolved block_on_policy_violation once in the crafting state, scope the enforced policy status override in SaveAttestation, and share the v2 opt-out contract in the enforcement init test. A workflow contract gets one setting,
spec.policies.gate, that enforces all of its policies. Enforcement also only tightens: the organization, the contract, a policy group attachment, or a policy attachment can turn enforcement on, but no level can turn off enforcement from a higher level. This removes the documented opt-out ofgate: falseunder organization enforcement. The change ships in the next release, with no warning period. There are no open questions.
