Before: the site had no v2.19.2 changelog entry. CC013 did not mention the Copilot coding agent, and nothing described the new config-type errors, CC202's skip, the remote tag name CC401 now checks, or the inert text output. The AI-attribution article, CC014 and the policy guide still listed the Linux kernel as asking for Assisted-by:.

After: every user-visible change in v2.19.2 is documented where a reader would look for it. The kernel is described as dropping the tag.

This is the follow-up #57 left out: CC013 and the Copilot coding agent, the wrong-type config errors, the changelog, and the kernel cell in the article.

Page Before After
changelog latest entry v2.19.1 v2.19.2 entry (2026-10-18) and a Highlights row
rules CC013, guides/policies, AI-attribution article Copilot named, but not its coding agent the Agent-Logs-Url: trailer and the copilot-swe-agent[bot] co-author line (#632)
rules CC202 no word on a target that does not resolve a skip with the JSON reason, not a pass (#617)
rules CC401 nothing on pre-push names the name the remote receives is checked (#615)
configuration "Every option", troubleshoot exit codes wrong-type values not mentioned exit 2 naming the setting; the three lists also take a comma-separated string; a quoted "false" counts as true (#624)
example "Color and links" nothing on escaping control characters print as \xNN and a leading :: as \::; JSON unchanged (#620)
AI-attribution article, rules CC014, guides/policies "Linux kernel and Fedora (Assisted-by:)" Fedora, "and the Linux kernel until its maintainers decided in October 2026 to drop the tag". The kernel's rule against AI sign-offs stays.

The kernel change follows the October 9 patch on LKML. docs.kernel.org (7.3.0-rc7) still shows the old text until it lands, so the article says the maintainers decided, not that the docs changed.

How: every new sample is a transcript from commit-check 2.19.2. For example, with subject_max_length = "50" in cchk.toml:

$ echo "feat: add streaming support" | commit-check -m
Error: [commit] subject_max_length must be a whole number, got '50'

The command exits with 2. python -m pytest tests/ -q passes against 2.19.2 (10 tests), and mkdocs build --strict passes; it was run with SOCIAL_CARDS=false because the build machine could not reach Google Fonts. Blog pins are untouched.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Documentation
    • Clarified that configuration values with incorrect types produce a setting-specific error and exit code 2, and documented comma-separated values for supported allow-lists.
    • Updated AI attribution guidance to include Copilot coding agent trailers and reflect the Linux kernel’s current policy.
    • Expanded rule and troubleshooting guidance for missing branch targets, pre-push tag checks, and exit codes.
    • Explained how failure output renders untrusted commit text; JSON output is unchanged.

The changelog gets a v2.19.2 entry and a Highlights row. CC013 and the
policy guide name the Copilot coding agent's Agent-Logs-Url trailer and
its copilot-swe-agent[bot] co-author line. CC202 documents the skip when
the rebase target does not resolve, and CC401 the remote tag name a
pre-push line creates. The options reference and the exit-code table
describe the wrong-type config errors, and the output section says
commit text is printed inert.

The Linux kernel's maintainers decided in October 2026 to drop the
Assisted-by tag, so the AI-attribution article, CC014 and the policy
guide no longer list the kernel as asking for it. Its rule against AI
sign-offs stays.

📝 Walkthrough

Documentation now describes the 2.19.2 changes to configuration validation, rule behavior, text output, pattern matching, and AI attribution. Policy references also reflect the Linux kernel’s October 2026 change.

Changes: Release and policy documentation

Configuration validation
docs/configuration.md, docs/troubleshoot.md, docs/changelog.md
The documentation describes type-mismatch errors, comma-separated allow-list values, and exit code 2. The troubleshooting guide adds a related error example.
Rule and pattern behavior
docs/rules.md, docs/changelog.md
The documentation describes CC202 skips for missing rebase targets, CC401 checks against remote tag names, and linear-time pattern matching.
Terminal output escaping
docs/example.md, docs/changelog.md
The documentation describes escaped control characters and workflow-command-like lines in text output. JSON output remains unchanged.

The terminal-output documentation overstates cursor protection when commit text includes newlines or tabs. Correct that wording before relying on it as a safety guarantee; the spelling inconsistency is only stylistic.

Whatever the destination, the commit text in a failure is printed inert.
Control characters other than newline and tab appear as `\xNN`, and a line
that starts with `::` is printed as `\::`, so a commit message cannot move the
terminal's cursor or send a GitHub Actions runner a workflow command.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Limit the cursor claim to escape sequences.

Line 241 leaves newline and tab unescaped. Both can move the terminal cursor, so this claim is too broad. Specify that commit text cannot use escape sequences to reposition the cursor.

Proposed wording
-so a commit message cannot move the terminal's cursor or send a GitHub Actions runner a workflow command.
