docs: add a guide on keeping AI coding agents from skipping the check - #70
Before: the site said in passing that anyone can skip a hook with --no-verify and that the Action and App can't be skipped, but nothing told a team what to do about AI coding agents, which commit often and can reach for --no-verify when a hook fails.
After: a new page, Guides → With AI coding agents, with three layers, cheapest first:
Tell the agent: a short AGENTS.md rule (read by Codex, Cursor, Jules, Devin, the Copilot coding agent, and by Claude Code when there is no CLAUDE.md), plus a pointer to the MCP guide.
Block it in Claude Code: a PreToolUse hook script and its .claude/settings.json entry that stop --no-verify and git commit -n.
Check the pull request: cloud agents never run your hooks, so the App or the Action as a required check is what holds.
How
New docs/guides/ai-agents.md, and one nav line in mkdocs.yml after "With release tools".
The hook follows Claude Code's hooks reference (exit code 2 blocks the call and shows stderr to Claude; tool_input.command on stdin; ${CLAUDE_PROJECT_DIR} with args: []). The script on the page was run against sample commands: it blocks git commit --no-verify, -n, -nm, git -C repo commit -n and git push --no-verify, and lets through git push -n (a dry run), git commit --amend --no-edit and a message that mentions -n or --no-verify.
python -m pytest tests/ -q (18 passed with commit-check 2.19.4) and SOCIAL_CARDS=false mkdocs build --strict pass.
The screenshot is added and removed again on this branch, so a squash merge leaves no image in the repository.

Documentation
Added a guide to preventing AI agents from bypassing commit checks, covering agent instructions, a local hook, and required pull-request checks.
The new page under Guides covers three layers, cheapest first: an
AGENTS.md rule, a Claude Code PreToolUse hook that stops --no-verify
and git commit -n, and the App or Action as a required check on the
pull request, which cloud agents cannot skip.

Summary
Agent instructions and guide navigation docs/guides/ai-agents.md, mkdocs.yml
The guide adds an AGENTS.md instruction example and points to MCP message checking. The Guides navigation links to the guide.
Claude Code hook docs/guides/ai-agents.md
The guide provides a PreToolUse Bash hook that blocks --no-verify and -n on git commit. It also documents setup steps and limitations.
Pull-request enforcement docs/guides/ai-agents.md
The guide describes GitHub App and GitHub Action checks and instructs making Commit Check a required check.
commit-check/commit-check.com#63: Updates the GitHub App guide to describe checks for AI coding agent commits, which this guide references.
commit-check/commit-check.com#62: Documents an App exemption for AI coding agents, which relates to the guide’s recommendation to use the App for cloud-agent commits.
Merge Risk: Low · previous review c2c33
The guide is mergeable with bounded follow-up, but its example hook can miss bypass commands and block harmless commands. Correcting these cases would make the recommended setup more reliable.

Review comments at @docs/guides/ai-agents.md:
- Around line 37-40: Update the command extraction and validation around
`command` so the hook exits with code 2 when `jq` is unavailable or the
extracted command is empty; only continue to the `skips` check when a nonempty
command has been extracted.
- Around line 37-38: Update the hook command-detection logic described by the
`git commit` and `git push` guidance so quoted arguments remain available when
checking for bypass commands. Match quoted `git -C` paths and nested commands
such as `bash -c "git commit -n"` before removing quoted text, or limit
stripping to commit-message arguments; ensure both cases are detected.
- Around line 38-40: Update the skips pattern so the --no-verify alternative
matches only within a git command, not arbitrary commands or arguments such as
echo or rg; preserve the existing git commit matching behavior.

Quoted text now becomes a placeholder instead of vanishing, so
`git -C "my repo" commit -n` is still caught. --no-verify is only
matched after `git`, so commands like `rg -- --no-verify` pass. The
hook blocks with a clear message when jq is missing instead of
silently allowing everything, and the page names `bash -c` as a
case it does not catch.
