π Script Details
vm/cachyos-vm.sh β creates a CachyOS VM. CachyOS is a performance-focused Arch derivative with custom kernels, BORE and sched-ext schedulers, and packages built for x86-64-v3/v4. Installation is completed in the graphical Calamares installer.
Rebuilt on the new core (pve/vm-core.func): 589 β 196 lines. Everything the engine already provides β the settings wizard, the storage picker, the header, the colour and icon block β was removed rather than duplicated. Two helpers were added to vm-core in the process (vm_echo_default_settings, vm_start_script, core#12/#13), so the other VM scripts benefit too.
This one has actually been run, and three faults came out of it. All are fixed:
unable to parse lvm volume name 40Gβqm create -scsi0 <storage>:<size>wants a bare integer in GiB, not40G. Now${STORAGE}:${DISK_SIZE%G}.- A truncated ISO was accepted. A bad SourceForge mirror serves an HTML notice with status 200, so
curlexits 0 and the VM boots to nothing. There is now a size floor (MIN_ISO_BYTES, 500 MB) that decides whether the file is really an ISO, applied to the cached copy as well as to fresh downloads. - A stray
101and_cs_clear: command not foundβ both were engine faults, not script faults, fixed in core#13.load_functionswas running six functions that no longer belonged to it, so loading the engine printed a bare VM ID and tore down the temp dir before there was one.
A fourth, cosmetic one is fixed too: Wide character in print at /usr/share/perl5/PVE/API2/Qemu.pm line 2259 on every VM creation, because set_description put raw emoji into the VM description. The LXC path had percent-encoded these since it was written; the VM path never caught up.
Defaults: 4 cores, 8 GB RAM, 40 GB disk, q35, host CPU.
What still needs testing
- Storage types other than LVM-thin β the disk-size fix was found on
local-lvmonly - The version discovery against SourceForge when a new CachyOS release lands
- Whether the installer completes and the VM boots from disk after the ISO is detached

The CachyOS VM script is ready for testing:
Note: This is not in the official repo yetβit's just a dev version! After merging into ProxmoxVE, it will need to be recreated.
