Should Maria Rossi (Sig.ra) read the salutation as a title, as Maria Rossi Sig.ra and (Dott.ssa) do? #1132
Since #1126, a title listed whole with a period inside it reads as a title at the end of a name. In brackets, rules/S1 sets apart only some of them. Measured 2026-11-06 on 9cdc64bc:
Input
Reads
Maria Rossi Sig.ra
title Sig.ra
Maria Rossi (Sig.ra)
nickname Sig.ra
John Smith (Dott.ssa), (Prof.ssa), (Univ.Prof), (Dipl.-Ing), (Priv.-Doz)
So the five academic titles are set apart in brackets, and the Italian salutations and styles are not, though all sixteen read alike bare. The question: should S1 set apart a bracketed salutation or style listed whole, as it does the academic titles? (Mrs) is the existing case that answers no for an unpunctuated salutation. What separates (Sig.ra) from it is the period inside, which marks it as an abbreviation. Found in #1126's design-docs review.
The same question at the front of a name, from India's Parliament (OpenSanctions in_sansad, 8,294 MPs, 2026-11-08). Indian lists write a second title in brackets after the first; with a period inside it reads as part of the title, without one it is the nickname, as (Mrs) is here:

(Under locales.HI; on master ccaf6ad.) 28 names write a bracketed title, and 5 lose it to the nickname this way. Between two titles, a bracketed salutation can't be a nickname, which may be a narrower case for S1 to set apart than the trailing one.
