Ing (Ingenieur, inženýr) is the engineering degree of Czech, Slovak, Austrian and Romanian names. Written with its full stop it reads as a title by its shape (rules/H2). Written bare after a comma, it is an unlisted word, so the comma reads as family-first and the name reverses.
How often. In ClinicalTrials.gov's study officials (local corpus, tools/name_usage.py), 52 of 536,981 officials write Ing, 43 of them after a comma. Of the 43 distinct names holding it as a word, 9 put Ing in the given field, among them Daniela Ponce, Ing, Michela Goffredo, Ing, Gunter Reekmans, Ing, Jiří Cihlář, Prof Ing and Jana Bartáková, Ing et PhD.
Why not a plain listing.Ing is borne as a name: given in Sweden (nam_dict band 5) and in Chinese romanization (FEC writes HO, ING), and family in the US Census (1,814). #846 excluded it as a title for that reason. As a plain suffix acronym it would take the family name from John Ing (suffix Ing, no family).
Measured option: an ambiguous suffix acronym (suffix_acronyms plus suffix_acronyms_ambiguous, as ma and pa are):
fixes 7 of the 9: Viera Sevcikova, Ing → given Viera, family Sevcikova, suffix Ing;
keeps the names: John Ing keeps family Ing, and HO, ING keeps given ING;
doesn't reach 2: Jana Bartáková, Ing et PhD (a connective inside the credential run) and Jiří Cihlář, Prof Ing (a title before it);
moves the dotted form: Ing. after a comma goes from title to suffix in 10 names, e.g. Filip Polák, Ing. and Jan Švec, Ing. Ph.D. (suffix Ing. Ph.D.). One of them splits a pair: Martin Hulin, Ing., Mgr., PhD. would give title Mgr., suffix Ing., PhD., where both read as titles today.
Open questions:
After a comma, is Ing. a title (how Czech and Slovak write it before a name) or a credential (how these English-format listings place it)? The answer decides whether the 10 dotted moves are fixes or regressions, and whether Mgr., Bc., MUDr. and PhDr. should follow it.
Should the two unreached shapes (Ing et PhD, Prof Ing) be in scope, or left to C13 (credential opening the part after the comma)?
