Adds devitools/php-nginx:8.0 as a compatible replacement for webdevops/php-nginx:8.0, applying the Sury source backport for CVE-2026-109618 and CVE-2026-109619 with its version-specific prerequisites.

The digest-pinned WebDevOps image retains its entrypoint, web server, FPM paths, environment handling and extension binaries. CLI/FPM, OPcache and configured shared modules are rebuilt with the original flags; patched headers and source are provided for downstream extensions. Source archives are checksum-verified and patch provenance is retained in the image. Upload progress is disabled following the October 23 PHP advisory.

A dedicated native amd64 workflow builds the image and verifies extension parity, normal startup, HTTP, multipart upload, configuration mounts, environment values, PHP_DISMOD, OOM callback suppression and subsequent HTTP availability. Local patch application, shell/Python syntax and diff checks passed. The native linux/amd64 image build and full compatibility/security smoke test passed: https://github.com/devitools/dockerfile/actions/runs/39959303639. Manifest validation also passed.

This PR is independent of the other compatibility images. Merging it triggers the existing publishing workflow for exactly devitools/php-nginx:8.0. It does not deploy application containers. Only the documented security patches and prerequisites are applied; unrelated Sury fixes are outside this change, and PHP remains end of life and inherited third-party extensions are not upgraded. Encoded applications and application-specific behavior still need staging validation.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Added a PHP 8.0 compatibility image for linux/amd64, with selected security backports and checks for PHP version, configuration, extensions, and multipart uploads.
    • The image includes runtime security settings and is available as devitools/php-nginx:8.0.
  • Documentation
    • Added build, deployment, and compatibility guidance. PHP 8.0 remains end of life, and the image addresses only the security issues specifically listed in its documentation.

📝 Walkthrough

This change adds a PHP 8.0.30 Docker image built from pinned sources with selected patches. It adds runtime verification, Docker smoke tests, image documentation, a variant manifest, and a GitHub Actions workflow that builds and tests the image.

Changes: PHP 8.0 security image

Layer / File(s) Summary
Build patched PHP and preserve source metadata
php-nginx/8.0/Dockerfile, php-nginx/8.0/.scripts/build-php.sh, php-nginx/8.0/.scripts/patches.list, php-nginx/8.0/.scripts/apply-patches.sh
The builder installs PHP build dependencies, verifies the Sury and upstream PHP sources, applies the listed patches, builds PHP, and archives a patched source copy.
Assemble and verify the runtime image
php-nginx/8.0/Dockerfile, php-nginx/8.0/.scripts/verify.php, php-nginx/8.0/variants.yaml, php-nginx/8.0/README.md
The runtime stage copies in the built PHP files and security metadata, disables session upload progress, and runs the PHP verifier and FPM configuration test. The variant manifest and README describe the image and its constraints.
Exercise the image in smoke tests
php-nginx/8.0/.scripts/smoke.py, .github/workflows/php-nginx-80-security.yml
The smoke test checks runtime settings, extensions, multipart handling, and out-of-memory behavior. The workflow builds the image for linux/amd64 and runs the smoke test.

Set persist-credentials: false on the checkout step.

The job does not push, and the build and smoke steps do not use git credentials. Default persistence keeps the job token available to later steps, including smoke.py, which runs from the checked-out tree. The token is read-only, so the impact is limited. The change is a one-line hardening step.
