throttle with expire crashes after the token bucket expires #386
throttle(..., expire=1) raises TypeError after an idle period exceeds that expiration, rather than running or delaying the next call. This occurs with eviction_policy='none', so it does not require eviction or concurrent access.
Reproduced on Python 3.11.16 / Linux, DiskCache 5.6.3 from current master ebfa37cd99d7ef716ec452ad8af4b4276a8e2233:
ok
Traceback (most recent call last):
...
File "diskcache/recipes.py", line 294, in wrapper
last, tally = cache.get(key)
TypeError: cannot unpack non-iterable NoneType object
The decorator initializes the bucket once and applies expire to it. On a later call the wrapper unconditionally unpacks cache.get(key), which returns None after expiration. I also reproduced this with a controlled clock, both before the first call and after a successful call; the corresponding expire=None controls work. No library source was changed for these reproductions.
Expected: an accepted expire value should not make the decorated function permanently unusable after idling. If expiration is supported, missing bucket state needs an explicit policy; otherwise rejecting that option at decoration time would be clearer. I have not implemented a fix or established the desired refill policy for expirations shorter than the rate-limit interval. This is separate from the tag-preservation change in #381.
