Enum toString methods and email address cleaning called toLowerCase with the default locale. In locales such as tr-TR and az-AZ, "I" becomes a dotless "ı". Enum values then serialized as, for example, "account_creatıon", and the web service rejected them. Email hashing also produced a different MD5 for addresses that contain "I". Use Locale.ROOT for these conversions. Add a test that runs them under tr-TR. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Add phoneVerificationMethod, phoneWasVerificationSuccessful, and phoneVerificationTime to the request. Both /billing and /shipping accept them. They describe the most recent verification of the phone number for the address. The inputs live in AbstractLocation, which Billing and Shipping share. The PhoneVerificationMethod enum serializes with Locale.ROOT so that locales such as tr-TR do not change the value. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Minor: On line 326, Jackson serializes phone_verification_time with ISO_OFFSET_DATE_TIME and keeps the caller's offset. If the offset has a seconds part, the output is not RFC 3339.
I checked this on the branch. ZonedDateTime.of(1971, 6, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0, ZoneId.of("Africa/Monrovia")) serializes as "1971-06-01T00:00:00-00:44:30". The same thing occurs for any ZoneOffset.ofTotalSeconds(...) with a nonzero seconds part. RFC 3339 allows only [+-]HH:MM, so the service ignores the input and returns a warning, although the time is in the valid range.
This is an edge case. Event.time has the same behavior. A simple fix is to convert to UTC before serialization, for example with withZoneSameInstant(ZoneOffset.UTC) in the accessor or in a custom serializer. Then every value is ...Z. If you prefer to keep the caller's offset, you can ignore this comment.

We will keep the caller's offset. This is an edge case, and Event.time works the same way.

Nit: I saw the earlier thread about a range check, and I agree with the decision not to add one. But this Javadoc now states a rule that the client does not enforce. A reader can think that the builder checks the range.
Suggestion: tell the reader what occurs, as dev-site does. For example: "The web service ignores a time outside this range and returns a warning."

Question: Event.Builder has time(Date) and time(ZonedDateTime). This builder has only phoneVerificationTime(ZonedDateTime). Do you want the API for the two time inputs to be the same? If yes, add a Date overload. If ZonedDateTime only is intentional (for example, because java.util.Date is a legacy type), you can ignore this comment.

Nit: The Javadoc for phoneWasVerificationSuccessful says "Do not set this if no verification was attempted". The Javadoc for the method field does not say this. dev-site gives the same rule for phone_verification_method: "Do not include this field if no verification was attempted." Without it, an integrator can set OTHER as a default when no verification occurred. Add the same sentence here and in the CHANGELOG entry.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
Nit: PhoneVerificationMethod is declared in AbstractLocation. The README (here and at line 260) and RequestTestHelper get it through the subclasses as Billing.PhoneVerificationMethod and Shipping.PhoneVerificationMethod. A reader can think that these are two different types. Also, the enum does not show in the Billing or Shipping Javadoc. Some IDE inspections flag a static member that is accessed through a subclass.
Suggestion: use AbstractLocation.PhoneVerificationMethod in the README, and give that name in the CHANGELOG.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
Suggestion: This list is the only guard against a new toLowerCase() with no locale argument. If a later PR adds a request enum, copies an older toString(), and does not add the enum to this list, the test does not catch it.
A lint rule catches it in all code. For example, a checkstyle RegexpSinglelineJava check that bans \.to(Lower|Upper)Case\(\) in src/main, or the forbidden-apis plugin. With the rule, this list is optional.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
Nit: The locale bug also had an effect on responses. Mapper enables READ_ENUMS_USING_TO_STRING and READ_UNKNOWN_ENUM_VALUES_AS_NULL. In tr/az locales, the lookup keys for EmailDomain.Classification and EmailDomainVisit.Status were, for example, busıness and lıve. So the service values business and live became null with no error. Users who saw null for these fields cannot learn from this entry that 4.5.0 fixes it. Mention response enum deserialization too.

There was a problem hiding this comment.
Nit: "the web service rejected them" is not accurate. For an enum value that it does not know, the service ignores that input, returns an INPUT_INVALID warning, and processes the rest of the request. dev-site gives this behavior for the new method field. A user who looks for failed requests in their logs will not find any. Suggestion: "the web service ignored them and returned a warning".

There was a problem hiding this comment.
Nit: LocaleTest.testEnumToString already checks this for every PhoneVerificationMethod value. This test does not use builder(), but it is in the abstract base class, so it runs once for BillingTest and again for ShippingTest. Consider deleting it. In testPhoneVerificationMethod above, you can also replace the three blocks with a loop over PhoneVerificationMethod.values().

Suggestion: The serialization test uses only a UTC Z time. Callers often pass ZonedDateTime.now(), which has the system zone, for example America/New_York. Add a case with a region-based zone. Check that the output is a plain RFC 3339 value, for example 2026-10-01T10:30:00-04:00, with no [America/New_York] suffix. Then a later change to the Mapper date settings, such as WRITE_DATES_WITH_ZONE_ID, will cause a test failure.

Tell callers not to set phoneVerificationMethod when no verification was attempted. phoneWasVerificationSuccessful already has this rule. State that the web service ignores a phoneVerificationTime outside the allowed range and returns a warning. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
In tr and az locales, the old toString of EmailDomain.Classification and EmailDomainVisit.Status returned values with a dotless "ı", for example "busıness" and "lıve". Mapper uses READ_ENUMS_USING_TO_STRING and READ_UNKNOWN_ENUM_VALUES_AS_NULL, so these response values deserialized as null. Say so in the CHANGELOG entry. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Loop over PhoneVerificationMethod.values() in testPhoneVerificationMethod. Remove testPhoneVerificationMethodToString because LocaleTest.testEnumToString covers every value. Add a test that a time with a region zone serializes with only its offset, without the zone ID. Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

Use an unabbreviated local name.
Rename loc to location in the new loop. As per coding guidelines, “No abbreviations in names except standard ones (e.g., ID, IP, URI, URL, JSON).”

Adds three optional inputs to the
BillingandShippingrequest objects:phoneVerificationMethod(DELIVERED_CODE,NETWORK,OTHER),phoneWasVerificationSuccessful, andphoneVerificationTime(ZonedDateTime). They sendphone_verification_method,phone_was_verification_successful, andphone_verification_timeunder/billingand/shipping. AbstractLocation, whichBillingandShippingshare. ThePhoneVerificationMethodenum serializes withLocale.ROOT, so locales such as tr-TR do not change the values. Tests cover both objects, including omission of unset inputs.LocaleTestchecks the new enum under tr-TR.The branch has two commits:
Locale.ROOTfor case conversions. Under tr and az default locales, existing enum values serialized with a dotlessıand the web service rejected them. The commit fixes every enumtoStringand the email address lowercasing insrc/main, adds a tr-TR test, and updates the enum pattern inCLAUDE.md.🤖 Generated with Claude Code
