instead of formatting these dates as zero, and suppress the missing-data marker
only for those unknown dates; preserve existing tooltip behaviour for reported

Awesome feature!
I have to admit, I am not the biggest fan of the look of the heatmap. I personally prefer a border-less look, without a static grid and without the grey month borders. Something like this:
But that's just my take.
Regarding accessibility, I think the test is not actually covering the real heatmap, but just the skeleton because we are in the loading state at the start. We could potentially mock useCharts().fetchPackageDownloadEvolution to return some points and await flushPromises(). And then assert that [data-test-id="vue-ui-heatmap-stub"] exists before running a11y checks.
We also might want to improve keyboard access so people can "hover" with arrows. This could be a follow-up.
I left some additional comments with some thoughts.

If we always take the last day of the week (Sunday), the subtitle shows a range that ends in the future. Could we cap this to today?

Could we just call the getMonthPaths(svg.cells) once to save some calculations?
Maybe just add a <template> around the two paths?

Removed, along with the month wrapping feat

Same here. I think we should just call getLegendContent(svg) once and reuse it.

This range is slightly different than the trend chart (default-range="52-weeks"), and because fetchPackageDownloadEvolution() doesn't dedupe overlapping ranges, we need to fetch everything again instead of using cache.
I think we should use this instead:
| startDate: toIsoDate(addDays(new Date(), -1 - 52 * DAYS_PER_WEEK)), | |
| startDate: toIsoDate(addDays(new Date(), -WEEK_COUNT * DAYS_PER_WEEK)), |

I think ref="rootEl" conflicts with the rootEl.value = document.documentElement in onMounted 🤔
Can we drop it please?

@trueberryless Regarding the heatmap layout, I simplified it by removing the month wrapping paths. They were indeed making the whole thing too noisy, without bringing real added value. I also changed the layout so that weeks span from sunday to saturday, since users are used to this layout rather than monday to sunday.
The chart can already be "hovered" with the keyboard, provided the chart is in focus:
However your remark reminded me I had forgot to add the navigation hint, as in other charts. I also addressed your other remarks. |

🧭 Context
This adds a heatmap chart in the stats page, to highlight the daily downloads for the last 52 weeks.
In the future it might be extended to explore other date ranges, but for now it is designed to have a quick view of the latest downloads state.
