This action is running with node20 which will be deprecated starting 2nd of June.
Additional context
Node.js 20 actions are deprecated. The following actions are running on Node.js 20 and may not work as expected: supabase/setup-cli@v1. Actions will be forced to run with Node.js 24 by default starting June 2nd, 2026. Please check if updated versions of these actions are available that support Node.js 24. To opt into Node.js 24 now, set the FORCE_JAVASCRIPT_ACTIONS_TO_NODE24=true environment variable on the runner or in your workflow file. Once Node.js 24 becomes the default, you can temporarily opt out by setting ACTIONS_ALLOW_USE_UNSECURE_NODE_VERSION=true. For more information see: https://github.blog/changelog/2025-09-19-deprecation-of-node-20-on-github-actions-runners/
There's a PR for it, the PR was merged, however there are failing lints on master now, and there has been no release since the merge to master, so it's not really usable short of pinning a sha1 in your GitHub Action.
setup-cli@v2 now runs as a Bun-based composite action. The public interface is
still the same, but the implementation is simpler and the repository no longer
ships checked-in build artifacts.
Usage stays straightforward:
steps:
- uses: supabase/setup-cli@v2
Better examples for local Supabase workflows
The docs now include clearer examples for common GitHub Actions flows, including
running the local Supabase stack and exporting environment variables for app
tests.
Example:
steps:
- uses: supabase/setup-cli@v2
- run: supabase init
- run: supabase start
- name: Export local Supabase env varsrun: | supabase status -o env \ --override-name api.url=SUPABASE_URL \ --override-name auth.service_role_key=SUPABASE_SERVICE_ROLE_KEY \ >> .env.test
- run: bun test
Notes
supabase/setup-cli@v2 still supports ubuntu-latest, macos-latest, and windows-latest.
If you rely on self-hosted runners, make sure the runner has the shell and
network access needed to bootstrap the composite action and download the
Supabase CLI.

Hey all, thanks for the ping. I gave this Github Action some love today.
Could you try the upcoming version 2 commit and tell me if it works for you?
Here is the changelog :
v2.0.0
This release modernizes
supabase/setup-cliand makes the default versionselection much smarter.
Breaking changes
Omitted
versionno longer uses a pinned default firstIf you omit
with.version, the action now tries to detect the Supabase CLIversion from the repository root lockfile:
bun.lockpnpm-lock.yamlpackage-lock.jsonIf no supported lockfile is found, it falls back to
latest. This means the default behavior now follows the CLI version already declared by
your repository when possible.
Before:
Now:
If your root lockfile already pins
supabase, that version is usedautomatically.
If you want to keep full control, explicit versions still win:

@jgoux awesome thanks!

All of supabase.com's documentation still only specifies
supabase/setup-cli@v1which is problematic out of the gate now.
