feat(webview): setValues batch persistence and reset cleanup (N4, split 4/5 of #1546) - #2236
Split unit N2 of Zoo-Code-Org#1546: viewStates read/write queue, claim rekey, prune, clear, load/save and export/import sanitization on top of N1 identity. Buffer/mutation/history content remains for N3.
N2 spec now includes the N1 identity tests plus the persistence/load/prune/rekey/export-import coverage; the setValues buffer test moves to the buffer unit.
Mode and provider profile selections are maintained separately for each view and can persist across sessions.
Custom mode entries can be removed without deleting their associated rules.
Bug Fixes
Failed settings saves no longer overwrite newer selections or restore selections cleared by a reset.
Deleting a provider profile that does not exist now returns a specific not-found error.
Imported settings no longer apply saved per-view selections, and per-view selections are excluded from exported settings.
Resetting a view clears its saved selections.
Custom modes are available before imported settings are validated, preventing valid mode selections from being rejected.
The PR adds claim-bound persistence for per-view mode and provider-profile selections. It synchronizes view-local buffers with setting and profile updates, excludes viewStates from settings import and export, and adds rollback handling for failed writes. It also adds custom-mode entry removal and a typed error for deleting a missing provider configuration.

A failed batch task creation can leave overwritten or newly registered custom modes persisted, and can leave the selected mode pointing at a mode that no longer exists. The mutation-gate CI check also fails on this head. Fix the rollback paths and bring the PR under the gate limit before merging.

Full details: Security Boundaries
Explanation
The prior allowlist-bypass finding remains unresolved. The changed refreshSiblingsAfterProfileSave path runs from persistProviderProfile for both activating and non-activating saves (src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:2840-2861). persistProviderProfile saves the supplied profile at line 2806 without calling ProfileValidator.isProfileAllowed, then applies it to sibling tasks at lines 2874-2892. The webview route passes message.apiConfiguration directly to upsertProviderProfile (src/core/webview/webviewMessageHandler.ts:2488-2491). A schema-valid profile with a provider or model excluded by organizationAllowList can therefore be saved and applied to live sibling tasks.
Resolution
Validate the complete providerSettings against the current organizationAllowList before saving or applying it. Centralize this fail-closed check in persistProviderProfile so activating and non-activating saves use it. Add a regression test that submits a disallowed but schema-valid profile through upsertApiConfiguration and verifies that no profile is saved and no sibling task handler is rebuilt or reconfigured.
Full details: Persistence Integrity
Explanation
The new per-view persistence path does not restore selections to consumers. ClineProvider.ts:4218-4226 saves mutations, but no production code calls setViewStateId(); both launch messages omit the ID and claim, and the launch handler posts state without loading them. Both state builders use shared or task values rather than viewLocalState (ClineProvider.ts:3783-3840, 4027-4081). If two views select different modes or profiles, a reload can show the shared selection instead of the saved per-view selection. Claim delivery is also unawaited (ClineProvider.ts:734-737, 785-786), and postMessageToWebview() does not report delivery failure (:2194-2215). The webview has no claim consumer.
Resolution
Send a stable view ID and stored claim on launch. Store returned claims and await registration and loading before hydration. Apply loaded view-local values to both state builders. Await claim delivery and retry or explicitly handle delivery failures.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description explains the scope and reports test results, but omits repeatable test steps, the pre-submission checklist, and the documentation assessment. It references issues but does not identify an approved linked issue.
Resolution
Identify the approved linked issue. Add repeatable test steps, the completed pre-submission checklist, the documentation assessment, and a contact username. Add visual snapshots or videos if applicable.
Full details: Regression Evidence
Explanation
The changed setValues batch success path lacks focused coverage. ClineProvider.ts:4349-4416 writes both shared values and persists both view-local fields. Tests at ClineProvider.spec.ts:6843 and :6927 cover batch failures, while the success tests use single-field writes. No test verifies the complete successful batch record, claim retention, and timestamp.
Resolution
Add a focused success test that registers a stable view ID with an existing claim, calls setValues with both mode and currentApiConfigName, and verifies both shared values, both buffered values, and the persisted record. Assert that the claim remains unchanged and updatedAt is numeric.
Full details: Lifecycle Resource Cleanup
Explanation
The prior lifecycle leak remains in the reviewed code. savePersistedViewState, clearPersistedViewState, rebindUnboundViewStateEntry, and rekeyPersistedViewStateEntry enqueue closures that capture this on the static persistedViewStateWriteQueue (ClineProvider.ts:259, 677, 746, 761, 805). dispose() sets _disposed and removes the provider from activeInstances, but it does not cancel or remove those queued writes (ClineProvider.ts:1417-1475). If one provider's globalState write stalls, a disposed provider remains retained by its queued closure; after the stall, its persistence still runs. A completed save can also call postViewStateClaimToWebview after disposal (ClineProvider.ts:731-737), creating work after lifecycle shutdown.
Resolution
Make view-state persistence cancellation-safe. Mark the provider inactive at the start of dispose(). Track queued writes by provider, or use provider-independent queue records, and skip queued work for inactive providers. Check the inactive state before persistence and before claim delivery. Bound or otherwise decouple an in-flight globalState.update so a stalled storage operation cannot retain the disposed provider or block later providers.

src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:3963-3968 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚖️ Poor tradeoff
Serialize the shared rollback, or skip it when a newer shared write has landed.
ClineProvider.setValue and ClineProvider.setValues capture the prior shared value, write the shared store, then roll back that captured value if the per-view write fails. The rollback is unconditional. If another view writes the same shared key between the capture and the rollback, the rollback overwrites that newer value. This is a rare lost update. It does not remove the other view's durable per-view record.
Suggested direction
Use a single queue, or compare the current shared value with the value this call wrote before rolling back. Only restore when the current value still equals the value this call wrote. The proposed edit is not established as safe, so none is included.

src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:4040-4045 🗄️ Data Integrity & Integration | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win
Run the reset's viewStates clear inside the shared view-state write queue.
resetState() calls contextProxy.resetAllState() outside ClineProvider.persistedViewStateWriteQueue, then calls clearPersistedViewState(), which is queued. A view write queued before or during the reset can therefore land after the viewStates clear. That write persists another view's selection, and clearPersistedViewState() removes only the resetting view's entry. Run the reset's viewStates clear inside the same queue, so no queued view write can run between the clear and the reset completing.

was never persisted.
- Around line 989-995: Update loadViewState to detect buffer writes during the
pending profile load using per-field write counters rather than comparing pre-
and post-load values, so clearing mode to undefined is recognized as a change.
Increment the counters in _updateViewLocalStateFromMutation, snapshot them when
the load begins, and apply the existing merge when a field’s counter changes;
add a test confirming saveViewState("mode", undefined) during a pending
getProfile keeps the mode unset when persisted state contains a mode.

…hrough a batch
createTask captured the pre-batch snapshot of the mode slugs it was about to install and
registered the batch's modes before the try block, so a registration that threw halfway (mode
2 of 3) escaped to the outer catch and none of the rollback ran: mode 1 stayed installed,
either having overwritten a saved definition or added a slug the batch never finished using.
The registration loop now runs inside the try, ahead of setValues, so the existing rollback -
restore the captured definitions, remove the slugs this batch introduced, rethrow - covers it.
(src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts: the registration block was at 5013-5016 outside the try at
5019; it now sits at 5015-5021 inside it. 6253 -> 6255 lines.)
Test: a new case in the buffer/rollback describe hands createTask two modes - one whose slug
already exists under a different definition, one brand new - and rejects the second
registration. It asserts the whole call sequence, so the restore cannot be confused with the
registration: existing-mode/Overridden, new-mode/New, existing-mode/Existing, then that the
new slug was removed through removeCustomModeEntry (never the saved slug) and that setValues
never ran. Before the change the sequence stops at two entries.
The pre-existing sibling case ("should remove a custom mode the batch registered when the
batch fails") had the same blind spot: it re-registered the identical object it had
snapshotted, so its restore assertion was satisfied by the registration call. It now hands in
an overridden definition and asserts against the snapshot, which is the assertion it was meant
to make. Strengthened, not weakened: emptying the rollback restore loop now fails it where it
previously passed.
Controls (ClineProvider.ts snapshotted at cafa6bc and restored by content hash after each):
hoisting the registration back above the try fails the new case only (expected [ ...2 ] to
deeply equal [ ...3 ]); moving it below setValues fails the new case through the setValuesSpy
guard; emptying the restore loop fails both rollback cases; emptying the removal loop fails
both through the removeCustomModeEntry guard.
Gates: prettier --check clean; tsc --noEmit -p . clean; eslint --max-warnings=0 clean on both
files; vitest core/webview + core/config 44 files / 1285 tests green (1284 before, +1 case).
Scope unchanged at 751 extension-package executable lines (types 8): the change moves existing

Seed a nonempty apiProvider before the pending write in the reset-rejection test.
The test starts with apiProvider undefined. A reset that wrongly restores the pre-write cache value would also leave it undefined. The assertion then passes, so this regression goes undetected. The test does not reproduce a production failure. Seeding a value such as "openai" before the pending write makes the assertion detect a restored pre-write value.

Add a focused `ClineProvider.spec.ts` success test. Register a stable view ID,
call `setValues({ mode: "...", currentApiConfigName: "..." })`, and assert both
shared values, both `viewLocalState` values, and the persisted `viewStates`
record. Assert the existing claim token and numeric `updatedAt` metadata.
- Security Boundaries:

`viewLocalState` into both `getState()` and `getStateToPostToWebview()` for
`mode`, `currentApiConfigName`, and `apiConfiguration`. Await claim delivery, or
add retry and explicit failure handling so a failed delivery cannot leave the
webview without its claim.
- Lifecycle Resource Cleanup:
Make view-state persistence cancellation-safe. Track queue entries per provider
or use queue entries that do not retain provider-bound callbacks after disposal.
Mark the provider inactive at the start of `dispose()`, skip inactive queued
work, and suppress post-disposal claim delivery. Remove or replace that

…opped
This commit touches one file: src/core/webview/__tests__/ClineProvider.spec.ts.
The two upstream/main merges on this branch (61189bb, d46d7b2) resolved that
file toward our side and dropped 72 declarations that main carries at e943530 -
the whole "webview heartbeat watchdog" suite (70 declarations, 1,912 lines) plus
two top-level .each tables (the diagnostics-broker router and the dev-server probe
fallback). An AST title inventory over all 932 spec files in this tree finds none
of the 72 anywhere else, and no distinctive token from any of their bodies appears
in another spec, so this is deleted coverage rather than a rewording. The four
sibling heads (Zoo-Code-Org#2226, Zoo-Code-Org#2227, Zoo-Code-Org#2236, Zoo-Code-Org#2237) each still carry all 72.
All 72 are re-adopted from main: every adopted body is byte-identical to main's
modulo repo prettier formatting, and no assertion is re-pointed to a different
seam. The suite needs harness plumbing this file had also lost, so the commit
restores exactly that and nothing more: the pWaitFor import, the ViewColumn,
getCommands and createWebviewPanel doubles, a showWarningMessage double that
resolves, and the show member on the sidebar and output-channel doubles. Net
effect: 1,996 added / 27 removed lines as git counts the diff in one file (the only
pre-existing line whose text changes is the showWarningMessage double; the other
"deletions" are identical blocks re-paired by the diff), zero executable lines
changed, and no eslint suppression count moved.
Controls: with mockWebviewView.show removed again the explicit-retry recovery case
livelocks and the worker dies at 122s, so that restored double member is
load-bearing rather than cosmetic. Moving WEBVIEW_WATCHDOG_TICK_MS off 60_000 fails
47 of the adopted cases, never registering the watchdog interval fails 57, and
short-circuiting retryWebviewRecovery fails 14. On the unmutated tree all 381 cases
in the file pass, including the 96 re-adopted heartbeat cases and the 6 re-adopted
table cases.
…ng the manager swaps
The view-state tests replaced whole managers on a readonly field, and every one of those assignments needed a
@ts-ignore: ten of them, at the profile-lookup helper, the failing-lookup and superseded-view cases, the
empty-custom-modes and resetCustomModes cases, the profile-store save paths and the write-ownership case. The
methods they stub are public on both managers, so the stubs now go on the methods with vi.spyOn and the
directives go away: 17 suppression directives in the file, 7 left, all seven pre-existing and outside this
PR's diff. The profile-lookup helper's stalled profile is now typed from the manager's own resolved type -
Awaited<ReturnType<ProviderSettingsManager["getProfile"]>> - so the stubs are checked against the real
signature with no assertion and no directive; keeping id optional there is deliberate, because the doubles
omit it today and the load path strips name and keeps the rest as the buffered apiConfiguration, so an id
that the doubles do not supply would show up in what those tests assert.
Diff: one file, 34 insertions, 39 deletions. 39 deleted lines are 10 directives, the ten replacement-object
blocks and the hand-written profile fields; not one deleted line is an it(...) or an expect(...), so this is
deleted-duplicate 0 and deleted-coverage 0. Test-only: it contributes no changed executable lines to the
mutation-diff buckets.
Two controls, run rather than described. Remove the getProfile spy that the profile-lookup helper installs and
core/webview goes red: Test Files 1 failed | 33 passed (34), Tests 5 failed | 962 passed (967) - the helper
stub is load-bearing. Remove the three profile-store stubs on the saver manager in the two sibling-overlay
cases and the suite stays green: 34 files, 967 tests. That is a real finding rather than a clean bill: those
three stubs are not what makes those two cases pass today - the real manager against the mocked memento
produces the same viewLocalState - so they are kept as isolation of intent, not sold as coverage, and the
question of whether those cases should assert on the store calls at all is a question for the reviewer rather
than something to hide behind a green run. With the stubs restored: 34 files, 967 tests, 0 failures; tsc
-p . --noEmit exit 0; eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored on the file exit 0; prettier --check exit 0.
Two tool artefacts measured on the way. eslint --prune-suppressions rewrote src/eslint-suppressions.json with
1441 added and 1441 removed lines, dropping entries for files outside this diff (anthropic-vertex.spec.ts and
others); the spec's own count stayed 195, so the pruning was unrelated cleanup and the file was reverted to
HEAD rather than shipped as a side effect of checking one file. And my inserted listConfig stub exceeded the
print width, so the edited file genuinely failed prettier --check while the HEAD copy of the same file passed
it: formatting was applied and the gates re-run, which is the difference between a file that needed work and
the junction worktree's whole-tree prettier noise.

The mutation gate counts the new savePersistedViewState code toward the extension limit.
The extension package fails the mutation gate when it has more than 500 changed executable lines. CI reports 502 for this merge tree. The added statements at src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:674, 676, 677, and 678 count as executable changed lines. The write closure starting at line 677 also adds its changed body lines, because the call expression spans them.
The gate exits with status 1 before the mutation run, so this PR's pull_request step fails.
Two remedies fit the gate's message. Either reduce the PR's executable changes in src/, or get a maintainer-reviewed narrow exclusion in the gate's excludedPaths. Moving savePersistedViewState or related helpers to another file under src/ does not lower the count.

Failed pre-merge checks:
- Regression Evidence:
Add a focused `ClineProvider.spec.ts` success test. Register a stable view ID,
call `setValues({ mode: "...", currentApiConfigName: "..." })`, and assert both
shared values, both `viewLocalState` values, and the persisted `viewStates`
record. Assert that the existing `claimToken` remains and `updatedAt` is
numeric.
- Security Boundaries:
Validate the complete `providerSettings` against the current
`organizationAllowList` before saving or applying it. Centralize the fail-closed
check in `persistProviderProfile` so activating and non-activating saves use it.
Add a regression test that submits a disallowed but schema-valid profile through
`upsertApiConfiguration` and verifies that no profile is saved and no sibling
task handler is rebuilt or reconfigured.
- Persistence Integrity:
Wire the stable `viewStateId` and stored claim into every `webviewDidLaunch`
message. Handle the launch payload in the webview and persist the returned
`viewStateClaim`. Await `setViewStateId()` and `loadViewState()` before initial
state hydration. Merge `viewLocalState` into both `getState()` and
`getStateToPostToWebview()` for `mode`, `currentApiConfigName`, and
`apiConfiguration`. Await claim delivery and add retry or explicit failure
handling so a delivery failure cannot leave the webview without its claim.
- Lifecycle Resource Cleanup:
Make view-state persistence cancellation-safe. Track queue entries by provider
or use provider-independent queue records, mark the provider inactive at the
start of `dispose()`, and skip inactive queued work. Suppress post-disposal
claim delivery and remove or replace that provider's queued entries. Bound or
otherwise release an in-flight `globalState.update` so a stalled storage
operation cannot retain the disposed provider or block later providers.

…when it fails
This branch had no write guard at all. There was no reset flag, storeSecret() had nothing telling it a
reset was in progress, and resetAllState() cleared the two caches, advanced the state-write generations,
deleted every global-state and secret key in a single Promise.all and reinitialized - with the success
path as the only path. So a save issued while a reset was still inside its deletes could land after the
deletes and put back a value the user had just erased. This commit introduces that guard; it is not
repairing an existing one, and a reviewer reading this PR should read the refusal as new behaviour rather
than as a bug fix to code that already refused writes.
What lands: a resetting field, a rejection at the top of storeSecret() (SettingsWriteError with the key in
failed, so a caller can tell a refused save from a committed one), resetting raised as the first statement
of resetAllState() and lowered in a finally wrapping the whole body. The body itself is unchanged: this
lineage has no pending-write barrier and no write-owner clears, and importing Zoo-Code-Org#2235's would have imported
a different unit's design rather than answering this unit's defect.
Two cases, because the guard has two halves and the refusal is the new observable on this branch, so it is
tested on its own rather than as a phase of the leak case:
- refuses a secret write issued while a reset is still inside its delete pass
- accepts a secret write again after a reset whose delete pass rejected
Assertions read captured call arguments (mockSecrets.store.mock.calls filtered on the key) and the cache
and storage read-backs, not toHaveBeenCalledWith: that matcher compares the way toEqual does and drops
undefined-valued keys, so a loose matcher would pass on a tree where nothing is refused at all.
Controls, measured in four steps rather than described. Baseline at 509f92c: Test Files 10 passed (10),
Tests 318 passed (318). Refusal case alone with production untouched: 1 failed | 318 passed (319),
AssertionError: expected undefined to be an instance of SettingsWriteError - with no refusal the mid-reset
save simply succeeds. Guard and refusal with the flag lowered only on the success path: 10 passed (10),
319 passed (319), which is the shape this branch would have had if the flag were added without a finally.
Leak case then added against exactly that shape - the negative control for the finally - fails 1 of 320
with the production consequence in the message: promise rejected "SettingsWriteError: Could not store
apiKey: secret writes are refused while state is being reset" instead of resolving. With the try/finally:
Test Files 10 passed (10), Tests 320 passed (320), identical before and after prettier.
gates: tsc -p . --noEmit exit 0, eslint --max-warnings=0 --no-warn-ignored on both files exit 0, and the
recorded suppression counts for the two touched files are unchanged at 1 and 5 across a
--prune-suppressions run; prettier --check exit 0 on the working copies and exit 0 on the HEAD copies fed
through the same invocation, so a format failure here would be this commit's. src/eslint-suppressions.json
untouched.
Size posture, with the pair printed rather than recalled. scripts/stryker-diff.mjs ci --base
e943530 (main's tip, this PR's recorded base) --head
509f92c (this commit's parent) reports the extension bucket at 500
changed executable lines - exactly at MAX_CHANGED_LINES 500, with nothing to spare before this commit.
The same command on the head being pushed here reports 518, so this commit is what starts the gate
failing on Zoo-Code-Org#2236 rather than a commit continuing a failure the branch already had. The diff is 28 added /
14 deleted in src/core/config/ContextProxy.ts plus 69 lines in its spec, and the spec half is excluded
from the bucket by the /__tests__/ segment at scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:85. Neither run could start Stryker
locally (spawnSync node_modules\.bin\stryker ENOENT for both packages), so no mutants were scored here and
only the size line is a real measurement; it belongs in the PR body or the maintainers' queue rather than
being argued in a commit on a branch declared final.
This is not an answer to a review row on this PR: the one live row here (ClineProvider.ts:5024, root
comment 4477459238) is a custom-modes write-path question and is being read against this head separately.
It ports the answer measured on vps2/n2-viewstates-durability for the same defect in this file so that the
three sibling units do not ship three different answers to one bug.
Mutation-gate measurement for this push, stated here so it is dated and attributed rather than only inside a commit message.
Command and pair, printed rather than recalled: node scripts/stryker-diff.mjs ci --base e943530c848624bd3054c960be1e4fb0b658509a --head <sha> run locally against vps2/n4-values-reset, where the base is upstream/main's tip and this PR's recorded base.
parent 509f92ccd2224d9c5688ebf4cee49ffc0c8c5a27: extension bucket 500 changed executable lines against MAX_CHANGED_LINES = 500 (exactly at the cap before this commit)
head 492cfb3d28d86e19c38124b22f2887ae41c138b8: extension bucket 518 changed executable lines
The commit in between answers a reset-guard defect in src/core/config/ContextProxy.ts (+29/-14 there, +69 lines in its spec, which the gate excludes through the /__tests__/ segment at scripts/stryker-diff.mjs:85). So this push is the one that starts the size gate failing on #2236 rather than a push continuing a failure the branch already had.
Two caveats stated with the number. Stryker itself does not run in this checkout - the script spawns node_modules\.bin\stryker, which is not installed here, so every run exits on spawnSync ... ENOENT and scores zero mutants; the size line above is the only part of the run that is a measurement, and the survivor list for the changed file stays unscored locally. And the CI figure for the same branch is a different number for a different reason than a moved diff, so the two should be quoted with their basis rather than compared as if they measured the same thing.
This is not an argument for writing the guard in fewer lines or adding a Stryker directive: it is the fact that either a narrow maintainer-reviewed exclusion or a split has to answer the size, and it is stated here so nobody has to diff the commit out to find it.

…he guard drops
Two windows in resetAllState, both about the guard rather than the deletes themselves:
- Overlapping resets shared one boolean. The first pass to finish lowered `resetting` while the second
was still deleting, so a storeSecret admitted in that gap could be erased by the pass still running.
Overlapping callers now join the pass already in flight.
- Promise.all rejected on the first failed delete while the others were still pending, and the finally
lowered the guard at that moment. The pass now settles every delete and rethrows the first failure.
ContextProxy.spec 72 passed, tsc --noEmit 0 errors.
…lback
The batch rollback snapshotted getCustomModes(), which hides a global definition behind the project mode
of the same slug. A batch that overwrote the global copy through that slug then restored only the project
copy, leaving the global definition permanently replaced. The snapshot now reads both source files
(getCustomModeDefinitions) and restores each entry to its own file.
New test: a slug that exists as a project and a global mode must come back as both, and the merged read
must not be enough to satisfy it. ClineProvider.spec 383 + CustomModesManager.spec 50 passed, tsc and
eslint clean.

Serialize the existence check with removal and await the queued write.
queueWrite resolves immediately when another write is running. If createTask queues a new mode registration during that write and then fails, this method can read the file before registration finishes and return false; the queued registration can subsequently persist a mode from the failed task. If removal itself is queued, this method can instead return true before removal runs. Put the existence check and removal in one serialized operation, and make its promise settle only when that operation finishes or fails. Rollback removes a custom mode but leaves shared mode and the per-view mode pointing at it.
Trigger: the batch has customModes: [new-mode] and mode: "new-mode".
Registration succeeds, so setValues passes mode validation.
setValues writes mode to the shared store and to this view's viewStates entry.
A later step fails. Examples are the allowedCommands config update or setProviderProfile with an unknown profile.
The catch block removes new-mode through removeCustomModeEntry. Nothing restores mode.
getState() then returns mode set to a slug with no definition. The value is persisted across restarts. Before this change the registered mode stayed installed, so the slug resolved.
Capture the previous shared mode and currentApiConfigName (and the per-view values) before setValues. Restore them in the catch block together with the mode rollback. Add a test where setProviderProfile rejects after setValues succeeds with a new-mode selection.

the inProjectFile/inSettingsFile guard, and await the queued operation’s
completion. Ensure the returned result reflects the file state after any pending
registration or removal finishes, and propagate operation failures rather than
returning before the queued work completes.
Review comments at @src/core/webview/ClineProvider.ts:
- Line 5083: In the setValues rollback flow, capture the previous shared and
per-view mode and currentApiConfigName values before applying updates; in the
catch block, restore them alongside the removeCustomModeEntry rollback so no
mode points to the removed custom mode. Add a test where setProviderProfile
rejects after setValues selects a newly registered mode, and verify the prior
values are restored.
- Around line 5070-5073: Update the rollback loop to compare saved modes by both
slug and source, treating a missing batch mode source as global, and pass that
source to removeCustomModeEntry. Extend removeCustomModeEntry to remove only the
specified source entry without deleting rules folders, and add coverage for a
saved project definition alongside a batch-added global definition.

Failed pre-merge checks:
- Description check:
Identify the approved linked issue. Add repeatable test steps, the completed
pre-submission checklist, the documentation assessment, and a contact username.
Add visual snapshots or videos if applicable.
- Regression Evidence:
Add a focused success test that registers a stable view ID with an existing
claim, calls `setValues` with both `mode` and `currentApiConfigName`, and
verifies both shared values, both buffered values, and the persisted record.
Assert that the claim remains unchanged and `updatedAt` is numeric.
- Security Boundaries:
Validate the complete `providerSettings` against the current
`organizationAllowList` before saving or applying it. Centralize this
fail-closed check in `persistProviderProfile` so activating and non-activating
saves use it. Add a regression test that submits a disallowed but schema-valid
profile through `upsertApiConfiguration` and verifies that no profile is saved
and no sibling task handler is rebuilt or reconfigured.
- Persistence Integrity:
Send a stable view ID and stored claim on launch. Store returned claims and
await registration and loading before hydration. Apply loaded view-local values
to both state builders. Await claim delivery and retry or explicitly handle
delivery failures.
- Lifecycle Resource Cleanup:
Make view-state persistence cancellation-safe. Mark the provider inactive at the
start of `dispose()`. Track queued writes by provider, or use
provider-independent queue records, and skip queued work for inactive providers.
Check the inactive state before persistence and before claim delivery. Bound or
otherwise decouple an in-flight `globalState.update` so a stalled storage
operation cannot retain the disposed provider or block later providers.

4455-4471: The earlier race between the reset buffer clear and a concurrent profile save is still open.
_clearViewLocalState() runs outside enqueueProviderProfileMutation. Only clearPersistedViewState() is queued. A queued save that completes between the clear and the queued delete repopulates the buffer through _saveViewLocalStateFromMutation. The queued delete then removes the persisted entry and leaves the buffer populated.
Run the buffer clear and the persisted-entry delete inside one enqueueProviderProfileMutation(..., { runToCompletion: true }) callback. This repeats the earlier review finding on this location, which the author's fix did not fully address.

Do not treat a failed mode read as an empty rollback snapshot.
If a mode file contains an unrelated schema-invalid entry, the snapshot records no modes from that file. updateCustomMode can still replace an existing mode in its array. If task creation then fails, rollback cannot restore the prior definition and can leave the replacement in the file.
Distinguish absent files from read or validation failures, and stop registration when the snapshot fails.

Review comment at @src/core/config/CustomModesManager.ts at line 365:
Update the snapshot flow around loadModesFromFile before updateCustomMode:
distinguish a genuinely absent mode file from read or validation failures, and
stop registration if snapshot loading fails. Do not treat a failed read or
invalid file as an empty snapshot, so rollback can preserve the prior mode
definition.
